They're so "one fell fast, the other fell harder" to me. Engineer's known they love Guard for a long time; Guard still doesn't know they love Engineer upon the events of the game and probably won't realize until the end of it. ✨
Cook headcanons!! yes i made this whole sprite just for this post LOL
General headcanons!!
Cook has ARFID (avoidant-restrictive food intake disorder)! Theyre not ashamed about it, and pretty open about their condition, but its part of the reason why their cooking is seen as so bad to everyone else. They can only really eat specific foods and textures, so making things outside of that comfort zone is a struggle, and theyll often overcompensate for themself trying to make foods not meant for them fit in that range, which makes it taste horrible to everyone else... and pretty delicious for them hehe
They go by they/them pronouns (again! this is canon)
They're a big animal person. Doesnt matter if its a petmate or a random insect, they love everything big or small. Takes "wouldn't hurt a fly" VERY literally
They love to sing and hum and mostly make up stuff on the spot. There's always a song stuck in their head and if they aren't singing that then they're throwing out a tune and speaking complete gibberish as "lyrics". They don't limit the random noises to rhyming or any sort of structure, either, which makes their songs less than desirable to listen to at times
Eggs are their favorite food and biggest safefood. Obviously!!!!!
They were a bit of a delinquent when they were a teenager (though nobody really took them seriously cause whatever threats they made were pretty empty), but grew up to be a big softie
Relationship headcanons!
Cook loves the Captain's motivational posters and helped them put them up all around the ship when they were originally settling in. They also encourage them to make more and put them up in the cafeteria so that Cook can see them when they're making food
They're very optimistic and believe that there's good in everyone, and is the type of person to continually try to get close to someone even when they're being rude or pushing them away.
Told Guard once 'turn that frown upside down', earned the tiniest smile that they'll never forget.
They really love to listen to other people talk and try to prod people into doing so all of the time. But don't let them interject or else they'll start going on a ramble of their own completely off topic
Scientist finds them a bit overbearing, but Cook doesn't mind cause they love to sit in the greenhouse with them and watch all the plants. They may or may not have accidentally knocked over a pot or two in their excitement before which has not raised the other's expectations of them
They have photobombed Doctor (accidentally or on purpose) too many times to count. Autopsy stream went well
They read Engineer's emails.... and have them all starred and put in neat named little folders along with everyone elses, to read whenever they're feeling down, to remember all their 'good times'. qwq
Angsty headcanons...
Remember how I said they think there's good in everyone? Well, they believed that up until the very moment they died.
If Captain killed them, they would've understood. They're aware their cooking isn't always liked as much as they themselves like it. If they were bringing down the mood of the ship that much, it would make sense for them to die.
If Scientist killed them, they would've understood that too. Cook was very clumsy, and they had a hard time helping in their subject. They were definitely more of a nuisance in the greenhouse than a servant, and what better way to keep their nosy visor out than to kill them?
If Doctor killed them, they would've also understood that. In the fast paced world of the internet, you always need new material, and on a tiny ship in the middle of nowhere there's not many patients to treat or documents to go over. Making one of your own might be the only option.
If Engineer killed them, they would've understood it just as much. They can't help with technicalities or food or complete their one job. In someone as analytical as Engineer's eyes, their cons definitely outweighed their pros. Their death would've been necessary for keeping things simple.
If Guard killed them, they would've... maybe been confused, but still, understanding. Maybe in their eyes they were threatening, with their constant access to tools like knives and trash bags and whatever else you could find in the kitchen. It was all for the safety of the crew.
None of it would be out of any self-hatred or deprecation. It would just be out of pure understanding for the impostor.
