Discourse of the Lord of Light

So this week during the campaign, the party has to cross about a third of the continent. Both cities are coastal, so they decide to get a boat ride there, which for such a distance cost more than they expected. The party used most of their gold for this trip. Upon finishing their business in the city, they learned they had to travel even further to another coastal city. The party didn’t have enough gold for this trip, so they came up with a plan. Xephra is a rogue human, and Winston is a gnome wizard. They came up with a plan which involved Xephra sneaking onto the boat and into the captain’s cabin without being caught (rolled and got over 20, success) and then killing the captain which she did. She then gave Winston the signal and he cast the alter self spell to make himself look like the captain and walked on board with the rest of the party like nothing had happened, giving themselves a free ride to the city. During the 18 day voyage, at day 8 several of the crew members noticed that the captain hadn’t been acting like himself, despite Winston’s efforts. Four of them ended up fighting the captain and the group quickly defeated them. Two of them died with a single hit each. Later on, Dana’s cursed sword (which was mentioned in the last campaign1 post) was unsatisfied by the lack of killing lawful creatures, she failed the charisma saving throws and the sword temporarily possessed her. The sword wishes only to kill lawful creatures, and there were 2 lawful crew members. Dana’s a druid, so the sword (played by a friend who joins us from time to time), decided to cast call lightning and ended up electrocuting the 2 lawful crew members. With 4 crew members left fearing for their lives, they didn’t dare disobey the party. When the boat docks, Xephra gets the great idea to sell the boat (its a 10,000 GP boat) with the 4 crew members included. They found a buyer who would buy it at half price and a shady buyer who would buy it at full price. They sold it to the shady buyer and now they have 2000 GP each. When the tiefling ranger asked where all the money came from, the shady woman said “it’s blood money”, to which Xephra replied “it’s a blood boat”. The party laughed, Xephra made a new criminal contact, and the party watched as a cage of slaves and a blanketed caged monster were brought onto the boat.
