Peter slams the door shut behind him as he rushes into the dorm, squeezing his eyes shut as he bangs his head against it. His escape from that mortifying ordeal is short-lived as three eager voices all shout over each other asking him a bunch of questions he is not paying attention to. Eventually, he makes his way to his bed and closes the curtains around him with a wandless incantation. 

Of course, five seconds later, those curtains are ripped open again and Sirius jumps onto his bed, dumping a bunch of sweets and chocolates on his bed. The other two sit down next to him, James tearing into a chocolate frog and asking, “So, how’d it go?” 

“It can’t have been that bad, right?” Remus says at his silence. 

“It was so much worse,” Peter responds. 

“Not worse than the time Pads said Remus’ name while making out with a girl though.” 

“Oi!” Sirius elbows James. “That was…Yeah, okay, you got me on that one. It can’t have been worse than that.” 

“The date was perfect,” Peter sighs dreamily, reminiscing about how they walked around Hogsmeade, using the cold weather and few people who dared to go out in the snow as an excuse to walk as close to each other as possible. They went to all their favourite shops, talking and laughing coming to them as naturally as breathing, until they ended up at the Three Broomsticks for a warm butterbeer. Literally nothing could ruin it. Or so he thought. “When we got back to the castle, Xenophilius kissed me on the cheek, and I got so flustered that I tripped up the stairs.” 

“You tripped up the stairs?” Sirius repeats and he nods. 

There’s a moments silence before they all burst out laughing. “It’s not funny,” he exclaims rather pathetically. 

“You’re right, it’s not. I mean, Moony’s done that countless times before,” James muses. 

“There’s no need to bring me into this.” 

“He’s bringing everyone but himself into it,” Sirius adds. “But don’t worry, Pete. If the date went as well as you said it did, I’m sure he won’t let a step ruin everything.” 

“But it’s so embarrassing,” he cries, hiding his face behind his hands. 

“If James can get Lily after years of making a fool of himself in front of her, you’ll be fine.”
