My latest essay is about Un-Navigatable by Kaden Ramstack! I talk about my naruto OC, the internet's perpetual state of amnesia, and use the word "smexy" in a sentence.
I absolutely love this game, and if you grew up on the mid-2000s internet, I think you should absolutely click around the CUSTOM WEBSITE THAT HOSTS THE GAME for a blast from the past.
Transcript here.
dumb question but i assume you've browsed neocities? that one does require coding n stuff but its very fun to browse
Of course! I’m on neocities as well. This is just like that but cuts out the html. It has the neocities feel but you don’t need code. Just straight drag & drop + layers. It also has a ‘lurk’ tab which shuffles through other people’s pages.
I’m obsessed
Life is funny.
I feel like I need to post this blogging story on tumblr because it's only fitting as I have been blogging in some form since I was a literal pre-teen. It is not lost on me the irony of typing this on tumblr. I started with Xanga, then Live journal, Greatest journal, and other websites.
When I was around 14 years old and a freshman in high school, I had a xanga and my username was "okibelieveyoubutmytommygundont". A Brand New song title. I met a guy who lived in Grand Rapids, MI off Xanga because we both had Brand New usernames. We quickly became friends and chatted on AIM (lol) until 3am. I also became buddies with some of his friends, and vice versa. He was one of my first online friends back when it was "uncool" to meet internet strangers. This is circa.. 2005? 2006?
In 2010, he and his friend visited Philly and I got to meet him in person! It was a lot of fun and honestly hard to believe it was 15 years ago. Anyway, as life would have it, we drifted apart but stayed connected on social media platforms.
He still lives in Michigan and has a wife and a daughter. Last weekend, he posted an instagram story of his wife at a local market with a big stand selling her handmade ceramics/pottery. I was super impressed by her talent and had my eye on a coffee mug. I messaged him and asked if she ships. He said yes, so I sent him my address and money for the mug. He told me he works at Merrell corporate and to expect some goodies sent my way. Today, I received the care package and was blown away by what he sent. He sent me trail running shoes, a tech shirt, an ultra light backpacking rain jacket, and of course the adorable handmade mug. This literally made my day. The shoes fit like a GLOVE. I am going on a two-week backpacking hiking trip in July, and he has no idea how handy this will all come in. The kindness does not go unnoticed. How serendpitous. I purchase this mug because I have an affinity for handmade ceramics (and to support small business), what I was not expecting was this generous care package! Screaming, "Everybody wake up! Wake up! It's time to get down."
I greatly miss the Xanga community. It seems as though so many people had Xanga back in the day. And then in 2013 it went premium.
is there a great community of people on here similar to that? I would think there is but I just need to find them.

gonna age myself here but anyone else remember xanga
Fascinated by the responses (particularly from right-wingers) of people just deciding to up and leave Twitter in exchange for Bluesky.
I've been on the internet long enough to have jumped from social media to social media. First it was with Xanga, then it was Myspace, then finally Facebook, which coincided for me with Twitter and such. But I've never seen the decision to move to another platform be met with the kind of emotions I've seen post-election. Even the jump from Myspace to Facebook didn't feel that big in comparison.
Is it just because Twitter has always been a "public facing" platform? I recall an old joke about how people have to be more professional on Twitter than on Tumblr. Not to mention all those companies that advertise on there; Twitter does have a seemingly large importance for the rest of the world. Maybe that's why people just going "I'm out" has received the reaction it has.
All I can say is, social media platforms come and go. And maybe we put too much importance on Twitter to begin with, idk.
