Happy WBW! Are there sacred animals in your world? Why are they sacred? Or, at the very least, popular?
The main one that comes to mind is the wyrm.
Wyrms are amphibious creatures, related to goblins the same way humans are related to chimps and bonobos. Goblins do view the wyrms as a sacred animal, associating them with death and immortality. Goblin deities are typically depicted as wyrms with goblin saints tied to each of them. While actual wyrms have no eyes at all, deity wyrms are usually given one eye to distinguish them as divine beings.
In regions where goblins must hibernate seasonally to avoid dangerous temperatures, it is commonly believed that those who die in hibernation are reborn as wyrms to watch over their burrows. Many goblin cultures also allow the wyrms in their area to feed on their dead, because wyrms are aquatic scavengers.
(Image description: three digital art pieces of goblins and wyrms. The first shows four goblins of varying coloration standing together. Below this, three of them have been redrawn as martyr saints with their death wounds visible, and the fourth goblin is now depicted as a pale wyrm with three eyes.
The second image shows the same pale goblin old and wrinkled, standing in front of their three eyed wyrm form, guarding a burrow.
The third image shows a cave wyrm, eyeless and pale like an olm, wrapping its long body around underwater stalagmites. End description)
