Writing Software (no AI)
This is a list of different writing apps, no long reviews - because each of them have a description on their own websites - all features and platforms.
Ellipsus: Brand New Hot editor, which sells itself like anti-AI tool. Has a feature of exporting directly to Ao3.
Novelist: Works for outlining, worldbuilding, and drafting. Has a simplistic editor and a more detailed one.
The Quill: Simplified writing app. Web-based just like Ellipsus.
Wavemaker: Multi-tool, lets you not only organize your concept, but brainstorm your ideas.
Ghostwriter: Distraction-free tool with clean interface. Also includes focus mode and session statistics.
Vim and other foss software for Linux. Some of my favorite software, great for writers

i see ppl here frustrated with ellipsus' new paid tier which one hand, alright you're entitled to your feelings and whatnot. on the other hand, one of the co-founders talked about a paid tier years ago on an interview and so this isn't out of left field? it was always "if we establish a paid tier, we wouldn't sacrifice key features already there", and they followed through on that. i don't remember the exact words, but it did stick out at me because it made sense, and they didn't deviate from that framework. i'm actually excited for the next tier once i can spare the money! it's cute additions and i love that they have non-gen ai metrics
(also for those upset about the chat who don't know why it got moved, look on their faq: the collab chat is "powered by a paid third-party" and "rising costs and low usage" has made it difficult to keep on free. they didn't just move the chat for no reason, but with ellipsus' rising popularity, they couldn't afford to keep it free. unfortunate, but makes sense.)
anyway tldr ellipsus has been transparent on the big things ppl are frustrated about. i, for one, am happy with the free tier for now but will move to the plus once september comes around :)
