Introduce your main character
Saxen, my favourite chew-toy. Having finished the modern day story, this year I started on the prequel so we're dealing with a much younger, much healthier Sax in a very historically inaccurate, pseudo-medieval, fantasy setting.
Sax is a vampire mage (in this world, vampires are their own species, born rather than made, and follow slightly different rules. Magic users learn how to wield magic, rather than being born with the ability). He's quite literally genderfluid in that he uses magic to switch between whichever body he feels like having, though his pronouns are always he/him. He named himself.
He is diligent, hard-working, observant, and feels things more deeply than his usual lack of expression might suggest. His desire to protect the people important to him sometimes borders on control, and he has a bad habit of deciding what's best for others.... very much someone with good intentions, but who often misses the mark.
● How would they describe themself?
This younger version of Sax has a lot more self-confidence. He would describe himself as highly skilled, but he is aware of his flaws. He just doesn't necessarily see the need to change them.
● And how much have they changed since the beginning of the story?
The prequel has only covered 2 days of story timeline so far, so he hasn't changed much 😆 His future self has the same qualities but they're all ramped up to 11, or forced to go off down weird pathways due to his ill health and inability to use magic the way he used to.

Anita chose her first name and once she did, her ethnicity was set. I knew one of her parents would be Hispanic. She chose her mother, and that made her father the white-bread. So her last name had to match that. We went through a lot of last names before she became, Anita Blake, but from that moment she was alive to me, in my head and on paper. Morning Sun
The sun streams in through my bedroom window. My alarm went off a while ago but I still haven't moved. The sun's rays warm up my toes that are exposed to the bedroom air. I wiggle them and giggle, remembering how scared I was at the thought of a monster from under my bed biting my toes off. Staring out the window, I think of how now the monsters I'm most scared of now hide in plain sight. I sigh and drag myself out of bed, already behind on my day.
