It occurred to me last weekend that there is only one white person in my cast of characters this year, the rest are people of color. Last #NaNoWriMo I don’t even think there was a white character. . . When I’m scribbling characters straight from my mind without thinking too much on it, I don’t write white characters because I’m not white. It’s not until I start overthinking that it occurs to me, ‘oh maybe I should put a white character in here or there to appease people.’ I don’t think I’m gonna change that as I rewrite and edit this books over the next year or so. I’m gonna keep the cast raw and fresh, and decidedly POC.
