Have you ever heard the phrase (or some variation)
"to gain [someone's] confidence," or "if someone should gain your confidence"?
As a more formal way to day "earn someone's trust" enough that they'll let you in on a secret (in other words, tell you something confidentially)?
I could swear I've heard that turn of phrase, and read it in literature, loads of times in my life. But when I tried to look it up, today, to remind myself which way 'round it should go, the Internet insisted that phrase has never before been recorded in the English language.

Without quotation marks: more links than I could count on how to be more confident.
Is this what it feels like to remember something that an evil wizard has erased from existence?
