You heard Logan’s heavy footsteps overhead and then coming down the steps. You were stood at the edge of a growing puddle spewing from the washer. You didn’t want to try and turn off the machine or pull the plug - why do that and risk electrocution when you can get your basically immortal husband to do it.

Logan appeared behind you and stepped through the water to the socket. He pulled the plug from the wall and grunted as a jolt of electricity shot through him. The machine, however, stopped pumping out water.

‘You okay?’ You asked.

Logan shook himself.

‘Yeah. All good now,’ he turned to the washing machine and gave it a kick, ‘I knew we should have replaced this piece of crap’

‘I’ll get online and order a new one but that doesn’t help with the load of laundry that’s in that one right now. Unless you want me to find a river and a rock.’

Logan smirked.

‘Like they did in your day..’ you grinned.

He looked at you.

‘I’m not that damn old!’

Logan pulled at the door, opening it and spilling out more water. He dumped the clothes into a nearby basket and started to pull the machine away from the wall.

‘Can you fix it?’

One of the advantages of being married to someone who was 200 years old, he’d learned a lot and so was a very efficient handy man. Logan could fix just about anything given time.

‘I’ll take a look.’

You gave him a kiss.

‘Thank you, baby.’

Several hours later you walked back down to the basement. The washing machine was in quite a few pieces. Logan was, you noted, shirtless.

‘Any luck?’

He looked up.

‘Not really. Found what might be wrong but I’d need a whole new part.’

‘Could you get one today?’

Logan shrugged.

‘I could go to the hardware store, see what they have.’

You sighed.

‘Is it worth it?’

‘Probably not.’

‘Damn…’

You watched as Logan started to put the machine back together, the movement of his muscles making it all the more interesting. You didn’t say anything, just leant against the newel post. After a while, Logan stood up and looked at you.

‘Got something to say?’

You shook your head.

‘Nope.’

He was wiping his hands on a rag, but there was smear of grease on his collar bone that he clearly hadn’t noticed. You had.

‘Oh I do actually. Why did you take your shirt off?’

Logan threw the rag onto the counter top to the side.

‘Got wet.’

‘Oh.’

‘Hmmm.’

‘Unfortunate.’

‘Unfortunate?’

You stepped off the bottom step and walked over to him. Logan raised an eyebrow and you started to unbuckle his belt.

‘What are you doing?’

‘Thanking you.’

‘For what?’

‘Fixing my washing machine,‘ you said, unzipping his jeans and slipping your hand inside them.

‘I didn’t fix…fuck…’

You had taken hold of him through his underwear. As you ran your hand over him, you reached up and kissed him. Logan’s hands were in your hair, his tongue in your mouth, your hand in his jeans.

You dropped to your knees. Logan watched as you pulled his jeans down followed by his underwear. You took hold of him, running your tongue up the length of his cock, slipping the tip into your mouth and sucking, then letting it out with a small pop.

‘Jesus…,’ Logan breathed.

You smiled up at him, then took a good portion of his length into your mouth, your hand working the rest. Logan was leaning against the broken washer, one hand grabbing at the top of it to steady himself, the other resting gently on the back of your head. You looked up at him as you sucked him into your mouth and he moaned. Loudly.

‘Darlin’…’ he panted, then moaned again as you tightened your grip around him, ‘gonna..’

You let out a small noise as he came, spilling into your mouth. You continued to stroke and suck until his thighs were trembling with the effort of standing up. When he was done, you gave him one last long lick along the length of him and stood up. Logan was breathing heavily, a little taken aback by what had just happened.

Logan's eyes cracked open at the sound of the soft music playing in some other part of the apartment. He looked over to your side of the bed, it was empty, but he could still feel the warmth of you. He sat up, his tired muscles complaining at the movement, but he pushed through. 

He shoved the comforter off, his feet making contact to the cold hardwood floor. He adjusted his sweatpants that sat low on his hips and slowly lumbered to the kitchen, moving through the small apartment as he passed picture frames hung on the walls. Pictures filled with him, Wade, Laura, you, and all your other friends. He sleepily scratched his stomach, a small yawn escaped him.

He walked into the threshold of your kitchen. He smiled warmly at the sight of you. Your back was turned, your attention towards the oven, where he could smell the scent of bacon and eggs cooking. Next to the oven on the counter was a plate of blueberry and chocolate waffles, already made and waiting. 

Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, highlighting your figure in the small kitchen. A few messy dishes sat in the sink. Plates with knives and forks set atop them on the table in the corner. A carton of orange juice sat on the counter, next to two mugs, and paper towels soaked next to them, a few droplets of the juice sat on the counter. 

Your hair pulled up in a messy bun, and you were adorning one of his t-shirts, a Led Zeppelin shirt you gifted him- yet ended up stealing and wearing it when you go to bed anyway. The sound of sizzling bacon mixed with the old jazz song playing in the background. Ella Fitzgerald - Your favorite. Your hips rocked back and forth languidly to the song, he could hear your quiet hums.

He came up behind you, his arms wrapping around your waist, as he pressed a kiss to your cheek. You lifted your head up to look at him and smiled, 

“Hi Lo.”

“Hey bub.” He hummed. “You snuck out of bed.”

A small giggle escaped you. “I wanted to make you breakfast in bed.” you inform him, as your hand grabbed the spatula to flip the slices of turkey bacon on the pan. He rested his chin on your shoulder, observing the food that you have been putting together - for him.

He pressed another soft kiss to your cheek, the coarse hair of his beard tickled your cheek, making you giggle as you turned your head away from him. Noticing your reaction, he pursued, attempting to scratch his beard over your cheek and down to your neck, making you erupt into a fit of giggles as you tried to push him away.

“Lo! Stop that tickles!” You shrieked, but his arms tightened around your waist, and he began to attack your neck and jaw with kisses and gentle love bites. You hummed, arms settling over his as he laid down his love over you. 

You reached over, flipping the burner for the eggs and bacon off.

“Dance with me Lo.” You say, pulling away from his arms, and grabbing his hands, pulling him to the center of the kitchen. He smiled warmly, accepting your invitation. Anyone else and he would have said no - he could never say no to you though. 

You pressed your body against him; his arm going around your waist, your arm wrapped around him, your hand pressed against his back as your other hands clasp together, held up beside your heads. He looked down at you, eyes filled with fondness and affection for you. 

Your bodies slowly rocked back and forth in the kitchen, looking into each others eyes. He leaned down, capturing your lips in a soft kiss, that you deepened as you leaned up to your tiptoes, eager to be closer to him.

“Who knew the Wolverine could become so domestic?” You whispered to him after parting from his lips. 

“For you? It’s easy living.” He responds warmly.

The rapping on the door escalated to a pounding.

Logan threw off the thin blanket that covered his knees. His forgotten beer bottle slipped from his lap, onto the floor and shattered.

"Ah shit."

He pushed himself up from the couch with a groan. With his stature, Logan crossed the apartment in five strides, throwing open the door as you lifted your fist to continue.

"Oh." You said surprised, dropping your hand to your side. "Logan. Hi. I was looking for Wade."

Logan, who knew Wade had disappeared for the evening with Vanessa, clicked his tongue.

"It's a bit late." He said gruffly.

"Yeah, well, tell that to the guy who just broke into my apartment."

You slipped past Logan and into the kitchen, the realization of what had just happened to you- what could have happened- settling in.

Locking the door behind you both, Logan followed you with his brows furrowed.

"What?"

Logan blinked a few times, sobering up at your last sentence. Someone broke in?

"Some crazy guy broke into my apartment." You explained, hugging yourself. "I scared him off with a knife, thank god, but what would have happened if I hadn't woken up? I didn't know what to do, Logan, I was so scared I ran right here."

In the past few weeks of living on Earth-10005, Logan considered himself well-behaved for the lack of violence he had found himself in. Now, however, he felt a familiar red, hot rage.

Despite the few moments you and Logan had shared in the short amount of time, you had left your imprint on him.

You were uncharacteristically kind to him: far more gentle and friendly than he felt he deserved. Everyone smiled when you walked into a room and it wasn't simply because of the fresh baked goods you carried in your hands; the fresh aroma of vanilla and cinnamon trailing behind you as you went. You were warm, funny, soft: attributes Logan had nearly forgotten existed behind the cold, hard walls he had built.

To think that someone had ill intent with you made him not only sick, but furious. Enraged. In the brief moments where his mind would run ahead of him, imagining the soft touch your skin on his and how your lips would feel against his rough cheek, he had felt twisted- perverted. Logan didn't deserve your love and any fantasy his mind conjured for him felt like an affront to your generosity.

And all he had wanted to do was treat you right. Who did this sick fuck think he was?

"My friends are right," you wrung your hands. "I shouldn't be living alone. It's not safe."

Your eyes glanced over to the scratchy couch on the far side of the living room. A discarded blanket and flattened pillow from who knows how long ago laid amongst its cushions.

"Wait, Logan?"

"Huh?" Logan asked, pulling himself from his thought. It only occurred to him then that he hadn't responded in a while.

"Would you... want to move in with me?" You asked, fingers toying with the frayed edge of your jacket, unable to meet his eyes. "I know that you don't exactly have the best living arrangement here and it would just... make me sleep easier knowing someone else was there. I'd feel safer with you around."

Now, that was something Logan hadn't heard in a while.

He stood a little straighter, bolstered by your confidence in him.

"I don't know, bub." Logan said, leaning against the cabinets. "You sure you wanna guy like me around?"

A dry laugh escaped your throat.

"I'd prefer to have a guy like you around." You said. "What do you say?"

With only a backpack full of his belongings and a note to Wade in chicken scratch left on the counter, Logan moved in the following afternoon.

"And this..." you said, opening the door to the last room. "Is your room. I know it's not much, but I got you some new sheets and a phone charger-"

The room, quaint but equipped with a queen size bed, two matching nightstands, a window, and a desk was more than Logan had had even in how own universe. At least since-

"This is nice n' all," Logan said, shaking his head. "But I can't accept this, sweetheart. The couch'll do just fine."

Sweetheart.

You shook your head.

"I'm not taking no for an answer, Logan." You said, inviting him into the space. "This is your room. Besides, I like my couch too much to give it up for you."

You smiled at the last sentence, informing Logan that it was part joke (but also part not).

"I'm going to go finish dinner." You said. "And before you even say 'don't worry about me': save it. I've seen how empty Wade's fridge is and I'm not going to have you not eat, okay? Let me do this for you."

Logan brushed his hand through his hair and chuckled.

"Alright then."

With a triumphant nod you left the room.

Logan tossed his backpack onto the bed and took in the room around him. The sheets that had been neatly tucked into the bed were a crisp white and held the distinct scent of laundry detergent from its wash earlier that day. Draped across the comforter was a soft blanket- hues of browns and greens that stood stark against the pure white benath.

Was this hand-knit?

Brushing his fingers against the cloth, he turned and glanced at the desk where a journal caught his eye.

A yellow sticky note sat atop.

Logan's calloused fingertip ran over the script, feeling where your pen marked the paper with the loops, swirls, and divots of your penmanship... for him.

The journal beneath was leather bound and carried weight in his hands. Logan flipped through the pages considering your words earlier- how you had set up this room (on such short notice)- with Logan in mind.

He almost felt overwhelmed by how you had done all this in consideration of him- for him. Whatever had made you do it, he wasn't sure but you had looked at this journal and thought of him. It almost made him want to pick up a pen and start writing then and there.

Logan decided that even if you had painted the room bright yellow he'd have made yellow his favourite colour because however you thought of him- and clearly it was very highly- it was the type of man he'd strive to be.

In the few minutes since you had stepped from the room, Logan had heard the distant clatter of pots, pans, and dishes echoing from the kitchen. Now, the chaos had settled down, and instead his ears perked at the familiar, scratchy sound of a vinyl beginning to play.

"Logan!" You called. "Dinner's ready!"

Dropping the book onto the desk, he allowed the sweet sound of music and the mouth-watering aroma of dinner to lead the way. In the dining room, the lights had been dimmed, the table was set as a large dish sat in the middle of the table.

Bathed in the warm light of the lamps surrounding you, Logan swore you shone like his own personal guardian angel. A part of him wanted to fall to his knees before you and relinquish himself to your care. Instead, he shook his head.

"Fuck, that smells good."

Taking off your oven mitts, you smiled.

"Well what are you waiting for?" You asked, pulling out your seat. "Let's eat."

Clear water surrounded him on all sides. Burying him in a freezing, liquid tomb. He was completely submerged. Frigid liquid would be slithering into his lungs if it wasn't for the rebreather firmly lodged between his teeth. Artificial air pumped into his mouth in quick bursts. Opening his eyes resulted in them stinging from the chemicals in the water, so he remained in darkness.

The sounds of the world around him were muffled. Faint discussion filtered through the water like raindrops on a car roof. Snatches of "pulse at 82," "body temperature nominal," "preparing the adamantium now," reached his strained ears. Fists clenched around the metal table beneath him. What was taking so long?

Mechanical whirring buzzed in the water. Like a swarm of angry wasps submerged in a pond. It was hard to tell where the sound was coming from. Waves of harsh droning sped through the water at high velocity. He would have covered his ears if it weren't for the metal restraints firmly holding his wrists to the table.

Dozens of spinning needles stabbed into his skin. Hot poker after hot poker spearing into his flesh and making him cry out into the rebreather. Sparks of absolute agony swirled in the blood leaking from his new wounds. He thrashed against his restraints, desperate to escape from this new torture.

Logan's eyes snapped open as a harsh breath filled his lungs. His pulsed raced in his ears like a galloping horse. Sweat covered his skin in a thin coat. The cotton sheets flew from his body in fistfuls of cloth as he threw them from himself, scrambling to sit at the edge of the bed.

As his bare feet touched the hardwood, chest heaving, he took in his surroundings. Framed pictures of his new life in this universe decorated every available wall and flat surface. Images of parties at Wade and Althea's apartment, Mary Puppins graduating from dog-training, Laura with her new girlfriend. The group of framed pictures on his nightstand were singled out, the photos containing someone he held so dearly the frames were more expensive than the rest.

You.

Stills of you and Logan at a bar getting drinks, you asleep on the couch with Mary Puppins in your lap, you and Wade playing cards when you know he cheats. Your bright smile decorated every frame in a cheerful glow. Always one to make people happy without ever really trying.

A deep, revitalizing breath filled Logan's chest as he scooped up one of the pictures. It was a selfie he had taken a few months ago. You and Logan were on the beach somewhere in California. Teals and greens flowed over your shoulders from the two-piece bathing suit you'd decided to wear that day. Your sunburned arms were wrapped around Logan's shoulders, lips pressed to his cheek as you gave him a laughter-filled kiss. A content smile was stretched across his weathered face.

Logan looked over his bare shoulder to see you. Cuddled under the blankets, mouth slightly parted, deep in sleep. Your hair was lightly tousled from your usual tossing and turning.

How did he ever land himself here? After everything he'd done, or didn't do? How in the fuck did he manage to build this perfect life with you? How did he earn the right to wake up next to you every morning, a sleepy smile playing at your lips as you kissed his forehead, with pure adoration flooding his senses?

The frame glinted in the moonlight as he set it back on his nightstand. Logan's touch lingered on the glass. Wind had blown your hair from the bun you'd secured it in earlier that day. Wisps blew across your closed eyes and had tickled Logan's nose.

"Logan?" came your mumbled whisper. He shifted on the bed until he was facing you. Tired eyes blinked up at him from your place amongst the sheets. Your eyebrows were furrowed, confusion etching into your sleep-addled features.

"Sorry, doll. Nightmare," he cooed quietly. He smoothed his palm along your cheek. Your skin was warm, plush, comfortable. Like holding a peach on a summer's day.

You nuzzled deeper into his hand. A small smile pulled at your lips, "It's okay. Wanna talk about it?"

The question hung heavily around his head. Smoke curled in his mind from where his nightmares originated. Clouded, a monstrous fog that Logan could never quite focus on. It lingered in his mind like storm clouds over a choppy sea. He'd tried to direct his ship toward the tempest, to access his memories, but he'd always sink beneath the waves before he'd reach it.

Doomed to repeat his past every night and to not remember a single thing.

"Nah, I'm alright, sugar. Go back to sleep," he soothed as he brushed a stray hair away from your face. Your hands unburied themselves from the sheets and gripped at his forearm.

"At least hold me until then?" you asked, so damn sweetly. Like the only shelter in the wilderness was in Logan's arms. Like he was safe, someone worth being near when times got tough.

"Of course," he breathed with a sigh. You tugged the sheets down to offer Logan space to envelop you. He dutifully obeyed, sliding under the covers and cradling you to his chest. A content sigh puffed from your lips. He felt your eyes flutter closed as you buried your nose against his neck.

"Love ya, Lo," you slurred into his skin. It was only a few moments before your breathing mellowed out, sleep taking you under its soft wings.

Logan ran his hand up and down your spine. Soft skin ran past his fingertips in fields of heated velvet. The repetitive motion grounded him, reminded him that you were his. He pressed a kiss into the crown of your head.

"I love you, too," he whispered. He knew, unequivocally, that he was yours. Nightmares and all.
