Premature babies aren't always the stories you hear in the media of those little ones fighting in the nicu, and overcoming adversity. sometimes they are too small to even make it that far. 22 weeks pregnant and my cervix failed, a week later August and Evaline were born. The hospital couldn't and wouldn't even try to save them partially due to policy. Oliver tried to come early many times in my pregnancy but I was blessed to be able to carry him to 37 weeks. Who knows what my next pregnancy will entail but it's really scary. I hope we never have to live through another premature birth, but I know it's a real possibility. Because of this I am grateful to live in a country where we are able to save babies from 23 weeks (depending on the hospitals policy) and that most babies born after 28 weeks do survive. #worldprematurityday #incompetentcervix #preemie #pregnancyandinfantloss
A new mother of premature twins receives gentle coaching and support from volunteer Lactation Consultant, Allika Alce, in the NICU at Hospital St. Therese. "Be patient, he can do it," said Allika as milk began to pour from mom's breast. Baby boy latched and had a good feed, "save some for your sister!" Mom was soon discharged and we gave her a manual pump, which she is using to express milk for the babies who are still in the NICU. #worldprematurityday #feedallthebabies #bestvolunteers #haiti (Photo: Summer Aronson/Midwives For Haiti) (at Plateau, Centre, Haiti)

💜 World Prematurity Day — November 17
Today, we honor the smallest fighters and the families and medical teams who support them.
1 in 10 babies worldwide is born prematurely, and many face serious health challenges.
Together, we can raise awareness, improve care, and build a future where every baby has the chance to thrive.
Tiny fighters, big courage. On World Prematurity Day, GS University stands for awareness, compassion, and better neonatal care for every premature baby.
