Thasunda Brown Duckett, President and CEO of TIAA, has built her career around making those financial systems more accessible and meaningful for everyday workers.

When Duckett became CEO of TIAA in May 2021, she brought extensive experience from Fannie Mae and JPMorgan Chase along with a strong personal understanding of the financial challenges faced by working families.

Duckett grew up in Texas in a family that valued education and hard work. Her parents worked to provide stability despite tight financial circumstances, experiences that helped shape her belief that financial tools should serve families living paycheck to paycheck—not only those who already have wealth.

After earning degrees in finance, marketing, and business administration, she began her career at Fannie Mae. There, she worked on programs focused on increasing homeownership among Black, Hispanic, and low-to-moderate-income families.

Her career continued at JPMorgan Chase, where she eventually became CEO of Chase Consumer Banking. In that role, she oversaw a massive retail banking operation serving more than 23 million American households.
