THANK YOU SM!! So so glad you like it!! I'm glad I finally decided to make a Sonic AU!! And of course it's like a Sonic adaptation of The Blair Witch Project hfhhhfhhhh,, (At least the vibe of it!) Also I kinda want it to feel like the looming sense of purgatory from Over the Garden Wall! Just in time for the approaching Fall season!

I'm going to tell you everything I can think of it right now okay? Okay let's go! Yap time!

To sum it up, it's basically about how Sonic goes missing, and Rouge and Shadow are hired by G.U.N. to investigate. Where did the beloved hero go?

So... I believe it begins when Tails reported to his friends that Sonic went missing one night out of the blue. So, what do Sonic's friends do? Go look for him, of course! But UH OH! his friends go missing too!! I'm sparing Tails, he's okay.. and maybe Silver I love them too much

And that's when G.U.N. gets involved. When mobians start going missing, something is obviously wrong. SO the top 2 employees get hired (Shadow and Rouge) to find Sonic and his friends who had also gone missing!

When Shadow and Rouge find no trace of their friends in usual places that they would be, they resort to investigating beyond the town: the forest that lay just outside. That's when traces of these missing mobians start appearing: Sonic's shoes in the middle of a field, torn pieces of his gloves... Amy's hammer broken into pieces? Knuckle's red hair/quills lying about. What appears to be dried blood stains on bark and leaves. Very creepy. And it all leads back to the forest!

And what of Sonic? Somehow, he has turned into a beast. A werehog, if you will. But not his traditional werehog, a legit huge wolf. The catch is, HE DOESN'T KNOW THAT HE CHANGED. To him, it's like he never left his home! He just woke suddenly in the middle of nowhere (a clearing in the forest), with his friends nowhere in sight. Nothing too different from what he went through before in his adventures, right? So the rational thing for Sonic to do is find his friends and make sure they're okay. Something must have happened to them!

So that's where the "came back wrong" trope is. Sonic is unaware that he is not in control of his actions. To him, he is still a hedgehog. Not a bloodthirsty beast.

And Sonic did eventually find his friends! In his mind, he was relieved, so glad that nothing happened to them! They can finally get out of this weird purgatory place and go home! :)

Reality check! Sonic is still not actually in touch with the real situation he is in! Sure, he believes the answer is that by "finding" his friends, he can get out of the forest.

But, bloodthirsty werehog version of "finding?" Hm. Well... yeahhh.. not good.

Sonic is completely unaware that he is not really "finding" his friends, but rather "hunting" them.

WOLFHUNT! Sonic is the "predator," his friends "the prey," and Shadow/Rouge the "Hunters." It's wordplay! Sonic is hunting his friends, and Shadow/Rouge are hunting Sonic. Cool! (Not cool at all, devastatingggg really,, me when I put the nicest, pure and innocent characters in the worst possible situations for fun)

As you can probably see from my recent post, Shadow has a close call with Sonic during some part within the climax of the AU :-) The only reason he didn't succumb to the fate of the rest of Sonic's friends is because of his Chaos energy and Rouge ;) (and maybe that's when Sonic snapped out of it for a moment, finally getting hints at what really is happening!)

So that's all I can think of for Wolfhunt as of now!! I'm sure I'll figure out more, such as how Sonic turned like that in the first place. It was a quick idea I came up with because I looovvveeee the comraderie between Shadow and Rouge so much,,, like them setting up camp in the forest, one keeping watch while the other rests, yatta yatta I love those types of dynamics so much and I wanted to make something for it! :)

Really glad you and so many others enjoy, it really means so much!! And hoping I'll explore it more in the future! ^^ Anyone feel free to have fun and explore with this AU, too!! Pick my brain, I dare you!!

Pssst, for those sonadow enjoyers out there, this song captures their dynamic in this AU pretty well ;) or just the AU in general! It's not designed to be centered around sonadow :)

Oh buddy. It's SO warped. Like... I think the only thing that "shakes" his reality is if someone gets away (ex: Shadow) because in his reality, he didn't find them. If that makes sense? Like imagine you see your friend, and suddenly they just vanish into thin air and stop acting like themselves(in this case, Sonic's image of them in his head)? Wouldn't that spook you? That's what it's like to Sonic when someone gets away! (Ex: I draw his wolf body without pupils to allude to his loss of control. But when I draw him with pupils/regular eyes? :'^) )

But, the thing is, this curse made it so Sonic feels lost. He feels constantly trapped in a forest. Like everywhere he goes is just trees and noises. So it drives him a little crazy but he holds on for his friends. :') and to an extent, the more lost he feels, the more aggressive werehog Sonic becomes?

I believe because Sonic is trapped like this for a really long time he starts to realize that something is really wrong. Why hasn't he been able to leave the forest yet? At the beginning, he treats it like another life situation: He's cocky, adventurous, and he's going to get to the bottom of what's going on. He's going to find his friends and get outta this situation!

And after he finds them (mauls them), it kind of generates a hallucination of them? Like "Amy is helping Sonic get out of the forest!! :) Knuckles is here? Great!!! Shadow-! What the heck where did he go??? He was right there!" He creates this idealistic version of them in his head that becomes his reality as a way to not go insane in the forest. They join his team!😁😦

I wanted to ask if you would ever write small oneshots of scenes or idk a fic with multiple chapters for this au? Because I would LOVE to read it :D

Oneshots are ENTIRELY possible I actually considered it!!! A fic, though, is a bit ambitious for me cause it took me months for CCPP (LORD) BUT to be fair it was 14k words :)) There are definitely ideas in my head that can't be explored in my drawings alone!!!

(ABOUT THE DEATHS.. ERMMM WELL... I'm gonna have to hold your hand when I say this... yeaaaahhhh... :''((( at least three of them which HURTS ME to do but it's for plot reasons I swear!!) time of death/reason, and events leading up to them still have to be brainstormed.. but may these be revealed in either future art, or possible oneshots! ^^

also I'm gonna spoil, characters who are confirmed to... ya know.. get "found" by Sonic:

Amy, Knuckles, and Metal Sonic. Amy was the first. Thinking about Blaze having a close call, but she's able to get away? Team Chaotix is obviously investigating, but I don't know what to do with them yet. It's subject to change!

I'm grieving them..

but im wondering, does sonic keep his speed as the wolf? or is it like the werehog where he loses some abilities, but gains some new ones in place?

YAAAAAYYY!!! THANK YOU SM!!!! Comparing it to a shiny trinket?!?! Holey moley wow!!! :^DD

I've rolled this around in my head for a while too.. like if he had his speed still, he'd be pretty much unstoppable, but restricting his speed I think gives other characters more of an advantage. It's half and half! Sonic's still fast, but his moves are less coordinated and more bashful because he crazy in da head huhuhuh so, a little bit of both!! Way faster than your regular wolf + mobian, but his actions aren't very controlled and pretty unpredictable. Which is probably why Amy and Knuckles had a hard time. They couldn't really predict Weresonic's moves, and because of that, just one small slip up ended up costing them their lives 💔

I think my brain subconsciously gave them guns but I didn't think that far TROLOLOL SO YES! I'm making it official! Shadow and Rouge are given guns by ... GUN. Because who knows what to expect out there, right? Listen I know they have their powers ... but imagine. Two baddies going in creepy forest with guns. COOL!!! Rubbing my hands together like a fly 😈

And in my free time today... I thought. HMM. Weresonic def still has his speed when he needs it. So imagine this: HUGE HUGE creepy dark evil forest (it's bigger and more maze-like than I'm describing it as), two baddies with a gun. And this logic-defying, BIG creature of speed could be anywhere. AWESUME!

Or can he be saved/cured for a bittersweet end? Because ain't no way he's not gonna tear himself up for mauling people especially his friends.

Aw heck naw I gotta give Sonic some love after allat no WAY is he dying on my watch! I feel going that route would make all of Rouge/Shadow's efforts fruitless </3 The bad ending, if you will!

That being said...

Wolfhunt Bad ending: Shadow puts Sonic, so to say, "out of his misery" because no cure was found. Shadow "wins" the hunt. (THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL!) Only Shadow and Rouge knew the beast was really Sonic. (Heartbreaking! Shadow... is this what I meant by putting you in situations!?! ;_;)

Also I should have mentioned this in the beginning, but Sonic had eaten/torn apart other mobians. Basically anyone who had entered the forest, civilians going to hikes, campers, etc. (Which was very few but still. Sonic thought he was asking for directions for out of the forest! This is happening while Shadow/Rouge are investigating the town).

The Wolfhunt "Good" (bittersweet) ending, though, is where I'm leaning (of course, it's up to interpretation! Go crazy with this AU!). Amy and Knuckles aren't coming back. It's dual grief: Throughout Wolfhunt, Shadow is subtly grieving Sonic, and Rouge ends up losing her spark for a while after finding Knuckle's traces in the woods (before Shadow picks her back up, its a whole thing in my head trust). It was so difficult to break the news to Tails that Amy wasn't coming back. Sonic sure isn't going to be a warped werehog forever, but probably long enough to really mess him up for a while after he comes back </3333. Post Wolfhunt, he probably still had Amy/Knuckles hallucinations every now and then :(

Ohhhh man...GREAT question!!! It's now that time to explain to the best of my ability, how our beloved Amy's fate fell into the hands of the cruel woods... I'm going to narrate it in the hopes of getting a picture down!

Amy and Tails have just entered the woods reluctantly but with heavy purpose: Tails in a rush to find his family, Amy wanting to find him dearly. They both don't want to wait for the military. Because they KNOW Sonic. As much of a hasty and bad idea it was to search the woods alone, parts of them felt that they HAD to, that the woods called them. But the deeper they go, the more the hair raises on the back of their necks. The more... hallucinatory it gets. They think they see the silhouette of Sonic, just to be a weirdly shaped log. A deer with twisted antlers. Tails and Amy are holding each other's hands because, in fear of letting go, they may never see each other again. Deeper and deeper into the dark they go, barely able to see themselves anymore. Is it Tails's hand that Amy holds still?

Anyways...

They get separated because Sonic had been behind them the entire time btw.

Do you know the tale of Okuri Inu? Kind of like that. If you trip and fall, the Okuri Inu will eat you!

And right when Sonic makes himself known, Amy smacks him with her hammer and tells Tails to run!! Of course he hesitates, but Amy promises him that she would be right behind him. But.. in reality, the forest began to warp her mind, like it warped Sonic's. And Amy basically is "devoured" by the forest. She hallucinated Sonic, and by hallucination, she thought she found him! But in reality, he tore her apart. I like to think that Sonic and the forest have become one?

And... that's how Amy fell to her fate. I like the idea of this forest being.. wrong in a sense, not just a regulat forest. But one that makes you feel like you're running in circles and see things that aren't really there. REALLY fun when you're trying to find a hedgehog!
