I thought it was hilarious that the other poll ended up with a 50/50 of wolf and bear, so I decided to do this write up utilizing three websites that I was reading about bear and wolf archetypes. I also thought it'd be fun to make WereBear an option, so if people agree that Chris embodies both or one or the other. Researching archetypes for my characters has been taking up my attention besides HSR.
My family is done visiting, but I found out this week that my dad might have Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL), so I've been super stressed plus needing to deal with my own medical issues. It's not fully confirmed yet, but the biopsy points to it. He needs to do more testing. I've never been close at all with my dad, but he's still my dad. There's nothing that I can do either, being in another state and my mom recommending I don't come home yet. Thankfully, fanfic is there for me to comfort me through everything along with my more personal religious things. But if I could ask you all, if you could pray for my dad's health? Thank you. You don't need to, but if you want to, I'd appreciate it.
You're Mine is actually helping me not breakdown about life being stressful, and I'm even more thankful that I wrote it. Writing has been put on halt, but I'm trying to get back into it. So, I decided to start easy, and this post became a thing to get me writing anything. In any case, now I just have to do more medical appointments and whatnot, but those are a little more spread out so I'm not too worried. Those are always going to be a thing in any case lol. If I don't update for a good while, life just taking the front seat right now. But doing things like this is helpful, and it helps get my mind off life's stress. So yeah, if I'm updating much slower, it's because life finally got me.
I'll try to do an explanation near the end on how I feel Chris embodies both. I'm copying and pasting the symbolism and attributes from a few websites. It'll be under the Keep Reading since it'd be too long. I'll put the articles at the end, so if you want to read the articles yourselves, it'd be right there:

"Wolf (1):
Loyalty
Family: wolves put their family first. The greatest gifts in life are your relationships with those you love.
Friendship/Teamwork: wolves rely on each other to survive
Protection: epitome of ferocity if they or their loved ones are threatened in any way. They’re extremely protective of their pups, their pack, and their territory
Wildness: perhaps it’s time for you to take some risks and to break free of that which is holding you back
Freedom: time for you to roam and explore—whether it’s physically, mentally, or emotionally. Wolves deserve to have the space to run free, and so do you.
Instincts: Trust your gut instincts. Instincts matter. Sometimes we need to be reminded to pay more attention to them.
Playfulness
Cunning
Ferocity
Endurance: possess an elegant combo of strength and endurance coupled with grace. We function optimally when we have time to move every day.
Curiosity: as apex predators, their natural state is to be confident. Like dogs, they’re intelligent and possess an innate curiosity. Don’t get caught up in negative thought patterns and emotions that don’t serve you, because there’s a great big world out there, full of curiosities and wonder.
Wolves form deep bonds with the other members of their pack and depend on each other to survive. Wolves put the pack first, above their own interests."

"Wolf (2):
Wolf has symbolized a wide spectrum of human values and instincts—wilderness, wisdom, solitude, power, and protection.
Wilderness: deep connection to the wild—a symbol of the sacred natural order
Freedom: unshackled by domestication, wolves roam vast distances under open skies. They symbolize unbridled freedom—not the chaotic kind, but a deliberate and disciplined independence
Intelligence and Fearlessness: strategic hunters and socially intelligent creatures. Their ability to work in synchrony, adapt to terrain, and defend their kin. Wolves aren’t reckless predators—they calculate risks, assess threats, and strike with intention, embodying tactical brilliance paired with courage
Nursing: nurturing, being guardians and life-givers. They teach the value of care within strength—guiding the young, the sick, and the lost through life’s transitions
Evil and Cunning: in fairy tales, it represents predatory cunning and deception. These stories reflect human fears: the fear of being tricked, hunted, or consumed by forces beyond understanding.
Royalty: associated with kingship and divine right. Invoke the creature’s ferocity and nobility. The wolf’s presence alongside royalty suggests leadership, dominion, and a fierce protector of kin and land
Loneliness: lone wolf signifies solitude—a soul set apart from the collective. This archetype represents those who walk their own path, often misunderstood yet deeply introspective. It evokes the ache of isolation but also the strength found in self-reliance
Pack Mentality: thrive within a structured, hierarchical pack. They teach us about loyalty, communal responsibility, and the balance of individual roles for the greater good. Each wolf knows its place—the alpha leads not through domination, but through guidance and trust. In human terms, this speaks to healthy communities, leadership with integrity, and interdependence
Protection: vigilant guardian. When defending their young or territory, wolves become fearsome warriors. In spiritual contexts, they’re often invoked as protectors against unseen forces. As a symbol, the wolf represents both shield and word—gentile with its own, relentless against threats.
Lone wolf: Solitary, resilient, and enigmatic — the lone wolf is not just an image; it is an identity. This archetype appeals to rebels, introverts, thinkers, and those disillusioned with conformity. It speaks to a soul that chooses solitude over shallow companionship, forging its own trail through the wilderness of life. The term “lone wolf” describes someone who chooses solitude over conformity, walking their own path with independence and self-reliance. It originates from wolves who leave or are excluded from their pack.
Wolves symbolize the wild soul of humanity — instinctual, intelligent, and fiercely loyal. Across cultures, dreams, and spiritual beliefs, the wolf reflects our deepest fears, strengths, and desires. Whether seen in nature or envisioned in dreams, it urges us to honor intuition, embrace solitude, and protect what truly matters."

Frankly, both the archetype that I've read about bears and wolves honestly encompasses the idea I had of Chris.
The way the bear is described as overprotective in relationships that can sometimes turn into possessiveness or controlling behavior. Chris is willing to go great lengths for his loved ones--mainly Reader and Isaac with the rest of the pack thrown in there somewhere. As a bear, Chris has a tendency towards isolation and social difficulties. He shows aggressive behavior when threatened, but especially when Reader is threatened as it causes his protective instinct to go ballistic. Chris is fiercely loyal and protective of Reader, providing a sense of security and stability in the relationship. Even if Chris is a yandere, he offered stability to Reader when they mated and solidified the imprint bond, so thanks to that stability, Reader began healing in a way she couldn't previously without him.
As a wolf, he does rely on the pack to survive and protect and love Reader. Wolves put their family first, and Reader is it for all of them. Wolves form deep bonds with the other members of their pack--wolves put the pack first, above their own interests. The pack mentality is protecting the Reader, so she's always put first before their own interests. They're all the epitome of ferocity if Reader or any of them are threatened in any way, especially Reader. The pack trusts Chris, so they do function through guidance and trust, which ironically makes their pack somewhat more functional and healthier in communication.
Chris functions a lot on instinct, intelligence, and cunning. He had learned to trust his gut instincts as he knows instincts matter. Chris is a strategic hunter and calculate risks, assess threats, and strike with intention, embodying tactical brilliance paired with courage. He nurtures Reader and guides her (manipulates) to make her more susceptible to what he wants. Everyone is overprotective of Reader.
As one of the special authority national hunters, Chris is essentially royalty, so the royalty symbolism really encompasses a deep part of Chris. He's associated with kingship and divine right. He invokes the wolf's ferocity and nobility. The wolf's presence alongside royalty suggests leadership, dominion, and a fierce protector of kin and land.
Chris ultimately does what he wants as there's only a few hunters in the world that could actually kill him. He follows his own path, and the rest of the Reed pack follows what he wants as they're happy being in his pack with each other.
