Though they are not technically a K-pop group, XG is the first girl group I have fully gotten into. XG (which is short for Xtraordinary Girls) are known for their music that crosses the lines and pushes the boundaries of music. They made their debut in March 18,2022 with their song "Tippy Toes" and since then, they've been keeping the world on their tippy toes (get it? haha) Fast forward to March 21st, 2024 just 3 days after the anniversary of their debut, they came out with this smash hit called "Woke Up" So, let's get to the review

Concept: 10/10: I love it and I love them. The concept is very futuristic and wolves? I have no idea but I'm buying what they're selling. That's it that's all.

Lyrics: 20/10 Can you say POWERFUL?! Ugh These lyrics are the embodiment of empowerment and the idgaf attitude and the attitude of "I woke up perfect and you're not bothering me." I love that honestly.

Beat: 10/10 It was different. I never heard anything like this before and let's be honest, that's rare these days. The lyrics and the beat and the flow of the members rapping were a lovely mesh together. This was flawless.

Visuals: 15/10 Ok ok, don't try to tussle with me but I seen the preview to this video and Cocona shaved her head! That was so cool, different, and thought provoking it really meshed with the lyrics. The "I don't care attitude; I'll do what I want." really rang true and I love that.

Overall: I can't put this song on a scale because I have no other words than GO LISTEN TO THIS SONG! If you haven't heard of XG, you will now after this review.

This song is so top tier, I have a new standard and I will now say 1-Woke Up (probably not but I'll think about it.) I do highly recommend this group and this song. These ladies are amazing and dare I say the female version of Stray Kids. So if you want to hear something new, please, please, PLEASE go listen to Woke Up by XG... you won't regret it!

It was a long and complex dream. I had arrived in what I would later learn was a video game. There were three levels, the plains that had animals and plants all out of proportions. Buffalo were the size of dogs, thousands of them running past a single mountain that sat in the middle of the plains. They feasted on raspberries taller than me, and rested in the tall wild grasses. The mountain had a face, which was turned towards a city in the distance. 

Besides the plains, there was a underground and ocean level. I went on an adventure through these levels, saving people and stopping an evil queen. After a long adventure, I returned to the plains and found myself alone. The npcs and other players I had met on my travels had all disappeared, leaving me to stand in the plains alone. The buffalo herd ran around me as I watched silently, confused as to why all my friends and the other players had left. 

The face in the mountain opened it’s eyes, and it began to speak to me. “You are the last.” His voice echoed across the plains, startling the animals and drawing my attention to him. 

“What do you mean?” I didn’t think he would have heard my small voice, but he did. 

“Once, this land was filled with thousands of players. They came from all around the world to be here. It was a good time, and I met so many people.” 

I took a seat, petting the buffalo that had laid in my lap. “What happened? Why did they all leave?” 

His eyes filled with sadness as they passed over me and towards the city. “I watched as they all went to the city. They were drawn in with what was on the outside. They forgot the complexity of this world, and only saw the city. They forgot us, and began to log off and never come back. The friends I had made, and the wisdom I had given them was no longer needed.” 

I jumped to my feet, clenching my fists as I silently cursed the city. “I won’t! I will not log off, this place...It has changed my life. I will keep you all alive!” 

“But you cannot do that alone. This game is dying, we are dying. We are but a program, and you, you are a complex being that found themselves in this game. You have a life apart from us, and you need to go live that life. Do not stay attached to us, for we are one part of your life. You are allowed to move on and let new things enter your life.” He let out one sigh as I turned and tried to take it all in once more. 

“But, I don’t want to leave.” 

“You must. We are but a bar that you are holding on to. Let go of that bar and learn what it is like to fly.” The world began to go dark, and I reached out for the mountain one last time. “It’s okay, let us rest”

It was dark, and the words “Game Over” Flashed on the screen.
