The term "woke" is a term that originated in African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and is used to describe an increased awareness of social and political issues affecting marginalized communities.  In this context, "woke" means being socially and politically conscious and aware of the systemic injustices and inequalities that exist in our society.  Individuals in marginalized communities should strive to be "woke" because it is important to have an understanding of the systemic oppressions and injustices they face. By being aware of these issues, they can take steps to protect themselves, organize and mobilize for change, and advocate for policies that benefit their communities. Moreover, being "woke" helps people in marginalized groups to develop a sense of empowerment, self-awareness, and confidence that comes from understanding the larger social and political context in which they live.
