Back on my Mooncicle Roommates AU grind 👍
This could be even funnier is if Icicle finds Moon out as a mind reader really soon after that first Scarlet dream.
Just remembered that Moon’s dad was Morrowseer and like. Why wasn’t that a bigger thing genuinely

For the ask game: 7, 8, 15 for Moonwatcher (you can answer all, or just one, or any combination you like)
Ooh yay thanks for participating in my ask game :D
I love Moon a lot, and I feel like I don't talk about her enough. At first she was the typical "shy nerdy girl" to me, but she's actually very interesting! Now she's one of my favorite protagonists!
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
I kind of like the headcanon that she gets the Morrowseer treatment. I think his size partly came from his age, not just from his genes, but I do think she'll eventually be the biggest of the winglet (other than Peril). Winter and Qibli will be absolutely gobsmacked when she ends up being bigger than them
8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
CALL. HER. A. MARY. SUE. Mary Sues are supposed to be characters who are perfect, have no flaws, and are liked by everyone. Moon is the farthest you can get from this. Moon's arc is about her hiding her powers out of fear of being hated. She has trouble fitting into social situations, and this persists past her book. She has constant anxiety from her visions as well as being around people. Her naivety was exploited by Darkstalker, and now she feels insanely guilty and has to work past that.
Anyone who calls her a Mary Sue is not only blatantly misunderstanding what a Mary Sue is, but is also completely butchering Moon's arc. Moon is perfectly imperfect and I love her for it.
I feel like a lot of those people mean that she's a plot device, and with that I semi-agree, she did feel like that in arc 3. However, she still has a character beyond that - she's just not in the focus so she comes off as "less deep". But her character is still there! Don't worry guys.
15. What's your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn't matter if it's canon or not.)
Confession: I love every Moon x JW member ship, with the exceptions of Carnelian (not enough page time for me to see it), Umber, and Peril (they're adults so that's a no). There's just something that clicks with her and the rest of the chaos winglet.
I like that her inborn empathy via being a mindreader helps Winter see the appeal of interacting with other tribes. He (along with Sora in book 6) also made her realize that she doesn't know everyone inside-and-out just because she can read minds; he hides so much mentally that she thought he hated her in book 7, when it was really anything but. I like how they help each other learn new things.
I like how Qibli calms down around her. He's always hyperfocused on getting everyone to like him, planning for the next attack, but around her quiet energy, he can relax. I also like how Moon loves reading his mind since she's never seen anything like it. Also with Moon's mind reading and Qibli's overthinking, together they know WAY too much about people. They have both given at least one random dragon a double stare by accident before while they were simultaneously analyzing them, I guarantee it.
(spoilers for book 17!! Just this paragraph) I like how Kinkajou brought her out of her shell. The constant worry of her powers being discovered and everyone hating her instantly went away when this bubbly RainWing ran into her cave and wanted her by her side for everything she did. Their new scene in the opening draft of Kinkajou's book was also really nice. They help with each other's insecurities with not having real friends before JMA and that's nice to see. I wonder what else is in store for the book.
I like how Turtle stuck by her, even when everything fell apart. He knew exactly what it was like to hide a horrible power, to want to stay in the background and not be seen by others out of fear of that power being discovered. I love that they're both quiet scrollworms. Moon would definitely be his editor.
Also, Moon, Turtle, and Peril should have formed the Horrible Powers Trio and we have been robbed of their potential shenanigans together.
All that being said, which one is my favorite? Depends on the day. Right now it's Moonbli (something about the book/street smarts scratches my brain), but tommorow it'll be Turtlewatcher lol

The Moon-Winter dynamic in Winter Turning is so funny even when you don’t ship them because Winter is repeatedly telling himself that he can’t trust Moon because she “manipulated him and invaded his mind” (quoted verbatim from p.57) and she’s obviously this conniving evil mastermind who’s been expertly hiding her powers for evil reasons.
And then Moon’ll go and pull something along the lines of the following
1.) “Can I go too? I-” (pauses awkwardly JUST before mentioning that she could use her mind reading to help find Icicle) (p.61)
2.) reassuring Riptide that Tsunami “thinks about him all the time” (P. 144) before immediately making a face that just SCREAMS “I should not have said that”
It’s just this constant and obvious duality between what Winter is expecting (or at least what he’s been trained to expect) and what Moon turns out to actually do and it’s just causing him to short-circuit.
And I think that’s wonderful.

I just started book 6, and I'm loving the second arc so far!! Here's a lil Moon. She's such a sweetie, I love her 🖤
*start of Arc 2 be like*
Moon and Winter: I hate it here I hate it here I want to go home I want to go home why was I forced to come here I wish-
Kinkajou and Qibli: Hey introvert who doesn't want to be here! I'm your friendly neighborhood social butterfly who's also yellow, AND your new best friend! :D *proceeds to hang around them until the end of time*
