Part of the aftermath of being beaten (or punished as they called it) is that I have an unstable sacrum with hairline shatters. This is the result of taking repeated blows to the end of my spin and sacrum (or read end aka “seat of learning”; as they called it) from a thick wooden paddle. They always reminded us that it hurt us more than them. “Actually,” I began to think as I grew older, “it actually doesn’t hurt you at all.” I understood quite young that my abusers felt no remorse for their actions. Now in my adult life I have a daily regiment of self care. It’s a necessary part of my life. In my goal to become physically stronger I obtained a wobble board. I’ve lost ten lbs in 30 days. I see a slight reduction of the body weight in my appearance. I break a sweat. Best part of all? I CAN TRAVEL WITH IT! It is fun. It forces me to still my mind and focus. I’ve gone from barely being able to balance to now starting to be able to balance with one leg. Thirty minutes a day and my calves are becoming stronger.
