Arms awaited your slow descent, easing you in towards safety with each flex and press of muscle to skin, pressure to tension, devotion to aches. Settling against the warmth of his collarbone, you nuzzled the crook where bone structure dipped—an invitation if you had ever seen one—and breathed in, bringing the cologne you had given him and the crackle of his magic in with it.

"Comfortable?" His voice rumbled through you, a pleasant thunder to the knots that still lingered in your shoulders. You nodded, drowsy already. The tension, ever present, was bearable now, already a ghost by comparison. A chuckle came next; gentle, soft, in an attempt to keep you undisturbed, and your lips curled upwards at the edges, tugged along by contentment and a love so vast it could eclipse the solar system.

"Thank you, Gale," you murmured softly, your lips brushing across scars and freckles.

"Whatever for, my love?" He always carried such disbelief and surprise in his tone when you thanked him—a habit you were determined to one day break him of.

"For being here."

He cupped your cheeks with his hands then and eased you up until your lips met his. "I will always be here, my darling. Dare not ever forget."
