Shinji was the perfect person to appear in Hinamori's life after what she went through. I think of at as, he was an amendment to her. After the shock and betrayal she went through with Aizen, let alone the mental, the physical damage he put her though. Hinamori was for sure down and would find it really hard to trust anybody ever again. But then Shinji showed up. One thing a lot of the fandom (especially the GA) overlook about Byler is how healthy their relationship is. Their antis often write them off as toxic because of their two significant arguments, but when you pay attention to the nature of those fights, you realize theyāre actually quite productive. Both cases start with one of them having a problem with the other (usually Will feeling neglected by Mike) so they call each other out on it, both share their perspectives, take some time apart, and then apologize and work it out. The one time one of them resorts to petty insults (āitās not my fault you donāt like girlsā), he visibly regrets it afterwards. They donāt fight just to fight, they do it because they both respect themselves and each other enough to know when they arenāt being treated well in that relationship. And their fights are productive!!! Their conflicts actually get resolved because they both care about each other and seriously listen during those moments
Not to mention, they both encourage each other to get stronger. Will with the heart speech and Mike by telling Will heās a sorcerer. I kind of resent the recent depiction of their dynamic where Will is a superhero and Mike is just kind of there, thatās just regurgitating the parts of Milkvan (no hate to them, just donāt want this post to end up in their tag lol) that make Mike feel terrible about himself. The great thing about Byler is that they BOTH make each other feel strong and capable, they bring out the best in each other. But they also provide a safe space for each other to be vulnerable when needed, with Mike being all protective over Will and Will comforting Mike when he felt inadequate compared to El. Itās not a āHeās Everything, Heās Just Kenā ship, if you want that dynamic then Milkvan is right there. Itās a ship where they both get to be everything because they flourish in their love for one another
TL;DR:
Byler is the second healthiest Stranger Things ship (#1 goes to Lucas and Max, sorry guys)
