I set up my autumn-heading-into-spooky-season altars today.
It’s Henry Rollins’ birthday, so I decided it would be a good day to share this Black Flag-inspired tarot spread I came up with:
RISE ABOVE
1 - the thing (situation, emotion, etc.) you are trying to rise above 2 - what’s holding you down 3 - what will help you rise/your chance to break free 4 - what might happen once you rise above
Did this birthday tarot spread from backyardbanshee.com for my birthday on December 31.

She’s here! My Brigid altar piece from @torque-witch arrived yesterday, and I’m in love. She has a planter pocket in the back, and initially I thought I might plant rosemary in it, but then I decided she should hold some of my pens, given her association with poets. (Though I did put a sprig of dried rosemary and a few other things there, as well.)
Me: I don’t really have deities...
Me: *realizes Brigid has been one of my deities for a long time, gets a Brigid custom piece made for my altar*
Me: Now I just need something for Cernunnos...
(Cernunnos has been coming in and out of my life for a long time, but he’s been particularly ‘noisy,’ so to speak, since last summer.)
In a tarot group I’m in on Facebook, someone shared a spread based on Paul Simon’s “You Can Call Me Al,” where the questions were: “Why am I soft in the middle?,” “Why am I short of attention?,” etc. I immediately thought: “I should make a spread based on “Once in a Lifetime.”” And then I did.
I’m not even going to bother explaining what each one of the questions means/represents, because if you’re enough of a Talking Heads fan to want to do this spread, you probably already have your own meanings attached to the lyrics.
