Many people use smudge sticks as part of smoke cleansing traditions that go back centuries. The practice centers on burning dried herbs and letting the smoke move through a space, an object, or personal items.

Herbs like white sage, blue sage, cedar, and palo santo are commonly used. Each plant has a different scent and burn quality. Some people prefer strong, earthy smoke, while others look for lighter herbal notes. Because of that, smudge sticks for smoke cleansing are often chosen based on scent, size, and how often they will be used.

Smudge sticks are usually bundled tightly so they burn slowly and evenly. Smaller bundles work well for quick use, while longer bundles last through repeated sessions. Many people also pair them with shells, bowls, or smudge feathers to help guide the smoke.

When choosing sage smudge sticks and herb bundles, it helps to think about where they will be used. Indoor spaces benefit from compact bundles that are easy to control. Larger bundles are better suited for outdoor use or longer cleansing work.

This beautiful wooden mirror was intricately hand-carved sometime in the 1930s or 1940s. Though there are a couple tiny spots of tarnishing on the inner silvered glass and a couple faint scratches on the outer glass, it still functions well as a mirror. However, I also think it would serve perfectly as a an occult tool, for practices such as meditation, scrying, and deflection.
