Earlier in the year, Ladytron put out their sixth album, eighteen years after their debut 604. and eight years after their last full length, Gravity the Seducer. It was a very long wait, but as everyone knows, Ladytron is worth it. The veteran outfit has been a pioneering influence in the synth and electro-pop scene out of England. There’s nothing quite like that familiar Ladytron sound. This week, the UK quartet fronted by Helen Marnie released a haunting video for album track Deadzone. Reminiscent of J.G. Ballard and video artist Chris Cunningham, the video for Deadzone, directed by regular collaborator Bryan M. Ferguson, depicts two survivors of a car crash interlocked in a morbid post-modern dance. The scene opens on two vehicles that have collided head on. As the music picks up, the two awaken and gravitate toward each other, tentatively inspecting, and ultimately embracing in a macabre pas de deux.  It’s a fitting accompaniment for Ladytron’s witchy art pop and Deadzone’s synth pumping splendor. Marnie, who appears in the video as a passenger in one of the wrecked cars, says, ”It is a nightmarish scenario that depicts the meeting of two worlds. Imagine being in the midst of a dream and being unable to shout or scream or move, and ultimately not knowing whether you are dead or alive.
