Great magical concept, I'm utterly fascinated by the idea of demons not just taking over the body of a recently deceased Saredi person, but also taking their place in the family, adopting all the family ties and connections.

It's such an interesting idea. But imagine loosing a family member, knowing their soul moved on, and adopting a demon in the body of your family member. Too see a familiar body, but have a whole new person in it...

(For some reason I was reminded a little bit about some African people in the Temeraire series, who believe newly hatched dragons are their reborn family members, and who also adopt all the previous family ties.)

I also love Bashasa, who's insanely charismatic, makes up his plans on the fly, and somehow managed to beat an overwhelming powerful enemy. But my favourite so far is Dahin. He's just a sarcastic little shit sometimes, but otherwise a scholar who gets so lost in his studies he's abandoning any sense of self preservation.
