there is a small space unbeknownst to many, that which keeps words and actions apart. It is silence, and oftentimes it is the most deafening.

Jack pockets his phone. âThat was Agent 47 in forensics. He says that as far as theyâre able to tell, the key ingredient in creed is definitely of Fae origin, so weâre on the right track. Toxicology and horticulture resources say weâre looking for ergot.â
Coraâs face screws up into a thoughtful mask. âWait, like The Crucible ergot? That hallucinogenic, LSD fungus crap?â
Everyone turns to look at her.
âWhat?â she says, reddening under their combined stare. âDidnât anyone else wonder how the witch trials started?â
Sofi snorts. âNot enough to do any actual homewâȘ#âwipâŹÂ âȘ#âwipquotesâŹÂ âȘ#âamwritingâŹÂ âȘ#âswordofsoulsâŹÂ âȘ#âforgottenrelicsâŹork, you nerd.â

This is a weird little excerpt from my work in progress novel in which my superhero level characters play Monopoly.
"If I'd known you'd be up this early, we would have waited for you," Gana promised. Â
"Yeah," Morgan's eyes lit up. Â "We coulda used another player. Â Drew is trouncing us."Â
"Speak for yourselves," Kyp murmured, poking at a hotel on Atlantic Avenue until it lined up with the edge of the property. Â "Drew is trouncing you three. Â I, on the other hand, am holding my own."
Cass rolled her eyes, turning to the twins. Â "I want anyone but the two of them to win, please." Â Then she looked at me. Â "You could've been the car."Â
I gasped. Â "Weak! Â That many players and nobody chose the car yet?"
Kyp looked up from trading $100s for $500s and shot a crooked grin my way, his eyes warm. "A clear oversight. Â I am the top hat."
I grinned down at him. Â He sounded almost proud of his choice. "Better than the wheel barrow."
"I normally choose the thimble," he said, now completely straight-faced. Â "But Gana chose it first. Â An act of cruelty, and may I say, likely the only reason I am not currently in the lead."
Gana stuck her tongue out at him, "Yeah? Â How do you know the top hat didn't give you good luck? Â Maybe without it you would've been destined to lose."
Kyp's eyes lingered on me for a moment, and for a second, his gaze was almost heated. Â "I don't DO losing."
