Winter's Bone is much closer to life in District 12 than the Hunger Games ever chose to show
We're told that Katniss shoots squirrels, but Ree shows her siblings, on camera, how to shoot and skin them.
The whole film is a Hunger Games movie AU if Katniss never got sucked into it all. Also, Prim looks much better groomed than Ree's siblings (plural). Even the accent is more accurate. I think Ree, in Movie 12, would be like, "Well, this aint rich, but y'all porches look sturdy enough, and yo Mama brings in some food an' money too. I mean, those games are majorly fucked but if that's all? You have some pretty nice boots there, Kat."
