how about you?? movies/music/comics/you. what am i missing out on w comics right now!
With comics, Iām not sure if thereās something Iām missing or if Iām just in the middle of changing tastes. Ā Iām almost out of superhero comics (unless any of the new stuff is good, but at this point that seems unlikely). Ā But thereās also not a whole lot of indie stuff Iām into. Ā I dunno.Catalyst Comix is tons of fun and Iām bummed itās only nine issues. Ā Prophet is still fantastic, going to miss it when it ends. Ā Iām looking forward to rereading it in the future, just to track how it changed. Ā Saga is enjoyable although the current arc has felt kinda weird (I think itās that the characters arenāt being chased right now). Ā Most of FF has been a lot of fun, but now that itās getting near the end, it feels like āfunā is being switched out for āimportantā/āendingā. Ā I really like reading Young Avengers, but Iām not sure if it works. Ā Like cutting out the fat of a superhero comic and doing one mega-arc over a year as opposed to the entire run is a commendable idea, but Iām starting to feel like that fat is needed? Ā I dunno, I just think Iād like the characters more if the plotpoints were more spaced out. Ā The Batman ā66 comic has been really funny and super inconsequential and I love it. Ā Pretty Deadly and Three might be my favorites of the āMarvel people by Imageā group, but Iām not sure yet. Ā Zero is a great spy comic so far. Ā I almost dislike that dude Ales Kot (heās a good writer but he also puts in stuff like āWe played video games six hours per day four days a week. Ā 3D shooters, usually. Ā Good for reflexes. Ā Good for learning how to nullify opponents without associating them with human beings.ā and stuff like that is just annoying). Ā But he really has great taste and seems interested in pursuing innovation. Ā Iāve just started the first Phonogram trade, thatās good so far. Ā And I also still have several books I havenāt read yet (Walrus, Spacehawk, Elekra Assassin, Orc Stain, Omega the Unknown, The Demon). Ā COMICSI just finished Mindy Kalingās book. Ā That was an accomplishment for me. Ā I do most of my reading on the Internet, so that felt good. Ā I have a book on crime movies my girlfriend got me to read.Music wise Iāve just been listening to the new Danny Brown and Run the Jewels. Ā Iām simple. Ā Loved Modern Vampires of the City. Ā Liked Yeezus.Movies-wise, Richard Brody is in town talking about Godard, so I felt like Iād take this opportunity to dive in. Ā I saw La Chinoise last night and Historie(s) du Cinema last Friday. Ā Historie(s) was almost unbearable, but the part where he talked about Hitchcock was good. Ā Today Iām going to Brodyās lecture and seeing For Ever Mozart and In Praise of Love. Ā Tomorrow Iāll see King Lear and Hail Mary. Ā I missed Masculine Feminine due to work and wonāt be able to see Pierrot Le Fou.I watched Rushmore for the first time last Saturday. Ā Everyone likes that movie, right? Ā I still have Life Aquatic and Darjeeling to see and I want to rewatch Fantastic Mr. Fox and Moonrise Kingdom. Ā Wes Anderson, man.Gravity was amazing, although I feel like Children of Men is a better movie (like Avatar is technically impressive but it doesnāt beat Terminator 2. Ā Same thing with Gravity). Ā I really enjoyed Harry Dean Stanton: Partly Fiction, even if it kind of leans on his singing in parts. Ā David Lynch and Kris Kristofferson make great appearances. Ā Movie of the year so far for me. Ā āSo farā because I havenāt seen a lot of the other movies Iād dig from this year (Frances Ha, Before Midnight, Pain and Gain, The Worldās End, 12 Years a Slave, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Counselor, Blue is the Warmest Color, her, The Zero Theorem, In a World, This is the End, Mood Indigo). Ā Before Midnight is the one Iām mostly likely to see first, after rewatching the first two. Ā And I hopefully going to get around to JCVD before the end of the year.Ā Me, Iām good. Ā Tomorrow freaks me out too, but right now Iām good. Thanks for asking.
