OJT EATS | Wingmans
We at OJT are always on the lookout for good fried chicken. Wingmans has been around in Soho for a little while now but we just haven’t made it down there, until now.
For a bit of freshness to balance out the fried chicken, we ordered these spicy Korean cucumbers. I’m not sure exactly what made these Korean but it was essentially a nice little smacked cucumber salad. It was a tiny bit spicy but very refreshing!
We do also love a good cornbread. What arrived were 2 big slabs of moist delicious cornbread along with a bone marrow and honey butter. It was pretty filling but the butter was amazing and not to be missed!
Of the burgers, we decided to go for “The Classic OG” which is a pretty simple burger with lettuce, pickles, american cheese and a big chunk of buttermilk fried chicken. Look at all the craggly bits making the chicken so crispy. The chicken itself was really well fried and juicy. This is one of the better chicken burgers I’ve had in a while!
Now for a place called Wingmans, we couldn’t not try the wings. They have a bunch of different flavours but we decided to go for the one flavour that were sauceless as sometimes, we find the sauces on wings a little bit much and overpowering. That one flavour was the Szech One - and it came seasoned with szechuan peppercorn salt, ginger, spring onion red chilli and a wedge of lime. Crunchy, salty, a little spicy and a little numbing too; good wings! Would definitely be up for going back and trying out the other flavours.
As our side, we went for truffle mac and cheese with beef short rib. The crispy topping and the mac and cheese was excellent! The truffle wasn’t quite as strong as I’d have liked but I’m being a little picky. The thing about this dish is that the beef short rib was very sweet. It was a little bit too much but luckily it was all at the bottom so you could quite easily control how much of it you had.
All in all, Wingmans is a great place for fried chicken. The wings are good and the burgers arguably even better. There are a bunch of good places for fried chicken in London nowadays but you can definitely add Wingmans to the list.
