Peyla is a 19 year old weaver living on a floating island in the country of Kyria. Her cultureĀ is loosely inspired by European, Indian, and Japanese influences.
Her country has a strong anti-magic sentiment, which is not helped by the invading army using magic in incredibly destructive ways. Peyla comes to the conclusion that the only way to defend the home she loves is to learn the magic that is so hated. She resigns herself to becoming a martyr and an outcast, but the deeper she dives into magic, the more she questions everything she knows. Peyla is the main character in a coming-of-age story about anti-colonialism, war, found family, discovering yourself and what you really believe. Coming in approximately 20 years because Iām a very very very slow writer with fluctuating motivation RIP.
Even more Peyla goodies underneath the cut! (Mostly art fight info)

I wanted to draw Fish with wings, and the drawing IS good, but I can NOT draw her from the front with wings out without needing a censor bar
I decided to base her wings off of a vulture and then immediately decided that took too much thought, so she just has generic wings. Iām also experimenting with where to give all my ocs scars, so there will be differences in every drawing until I decide on placements. +Buff Fish

For wings you have to consider four things: weight, aerodynamics, respiration, and wingspan/type
Most birds have air sacs and hollow bones for respiration bonuses and their hearts beat faster and theyāre able to take in more air in a single breath to be able to fly
Birds burn crazy calories during flight, so they stay trim in that department. Birds are also super small, and the larger ones usually either glide or get a running start. The largest bird, being the argentivis, had to get a running start to fly
Also, beaks are pretty aerodynamic. The kingfisher (haha) actually has a beak so streamlined that it can cut through water like silk. Birds also have nyctic eyelids to protect their eyes while flying from debris
Wingspan is super simple. Rule of thumb is to have the wingspan be 3X the total height of your subject. My Oc (with wings) has a wingspan of around 12 feet. Iām still doing research to see if she can function and fly with wings that big. Also if you want it to be as anatomically accurate as it can be, the wings should replace the arms, otherwise when your character flaps your shoulders would get in the way (also that would require more energy that necessary, isnāt aerodynamic, and adds extra weight)
Other things to keep in mind is weight distribution. Most of the power in flight comes from the chest, back, shoulders and core, not the arms. To support this huge amount of muscle, your character would need a keel bone - this crescent-shaped bone that sits in the middle of your ribcage. Your characterās chest might jut out a bit (a lot lol)
However, you wonāt want a lot of muscle on your characterās legs, just enough to hold them up when on the ground. Also to keep in mind what each part of the body is doing in flight. If you were held horizontal with only the thin membrane of your wings and nothing else holding you or supporting you, do you think your legs would just stay straight just like that? That maybe your head wouldnāt dip because your neckās getting tired? Things to consider
Thereās a million of other things I didnāt mention (bc then this would be WAYYY too long) but I did talk abt the main bits of how wings and flight worked. What was this question for? Are you writing a character with wings? I wanna know bug
