Flavors below the cut:
Flavors Left to Right:
Moscato = Valerian, Purple Rose = Grape, Spice Apple = Apple, Gamay = Strawberry, Chardonnay = Berry, Tempranillo = Energy, Prosecco Rose = Vitality, Blue Hawaiian = Fruit,
Not entirely historically accurate but I like how they look!
Potato wine is inspired by making mead and re-using bottles at home and Pruno is that good old fashioned prison wine! no need to labled it since the guards shouldn't find it anyway.
😂 this is a funny video from wine.gini, who runs an Instagram account dedicated to wine. She was visiting the vineyards and wineries of the Empordà (area in the Costa Brava: the north coast of Catalonia) and kept finding an old friend... the Tramuntana.
Tramuntana is the northern wind, which is felt strongly in the Costa Brava but particularly in the Empordà. "Tramuntana" means "between the mountains", because it reaches us through the Massif Central in France and then the Pyrenee mountains in the North of Catalonia. Thus, it's a cold wind.
Interestingly, Gini's caption of this video also mentions why this wind is important for the local vineyards:
Natural protection: the Tramuntana keeps pests and diseases at bay, promoting healthier vines.
Temperature control: it regulates temperatures, preventing stress and ensuring gradual ripening.
Flavour intensity: its cool, dry influence enhances aromas and flavour complexity.
Balanced ripening: grapes reach optimal ripeness slowly, resulting in wines with perfect balance.
"So? I had gotten used to you being here." You huffed. "Now do you wanna help with releasing all these jugs?"
"Help? As in, hands on help??" Zoro asked dumbly.
"Duh. You were the one who asked to learn how to do all this when you started hovering over my shoulder." You chuckled. "Or have you forgotten the conditions we agreed on for your first sip?"

The wine and ale supply had been a bit low in recent days, so you decided to brew up a bit of a secret solution to this problem— that statement being quite literal in this case. Off in a dark cupboard in a corner of the aquarium bar hid away three big jugs of honey mead that were almost finished fermenting, five liters of uniquely flavoured sweetness in each one. It was a hobby of yours you did not practice often, but figured would come in handy and help save on some booze funds for the future. The hardest part of doing all of this though, was hiding it from Zoro. He would surely try to drink some too early; that or hover over you while you tended to your project, which was a problem for you and the little crush you had. You still weren't sure on if you wanted to let that one slip just yet, so it would be better if he didn't hover too much and make you crack before you were ready.
Just your luck of course: fate had other plans for you. Despite keeping your little wine production hidden for as long as you have, around the seventh week of fermenting that veil of secrecy fell apart. While you were checking up on your wine and burping each jug as needed, the sound of someone bursting into the aquarium bar startled you. You were grateful to have been sitting down at the time, otherwise you would have fallen over from how much you jolted.
"Who's up so late in the bar? That's my job." Zoro's voice called out as he came around the sofas and found you sat before the open cabinet in the far corner. "… New question: what are you doing?"
"Good lord. You need to open doors less aggressively." You sighed, patting your chest to make sure your heart was still there. " I was checking on my wine. Or just mead right now I guess. Honey mead. I mean, you see the huge jugs sitting in front of me don't you?"
"Wait, you know how to make booze??" Zoro said, perking up instantly like you thought he would.
"Of course you're interested." You huffed. "No, you may not have a test sip. It's not ready, and this is just a small time hobby I had. I'm not aiming to do anything great beyond fill in the gaps when we run low on ale."
"So… Can I see?" Zoro then asked you rather innocently, coming up to better see what you had going on in the cupboard. "Also when can I have a taste then?"
"Heh. Next week is when this batch will be ready." You told him, scooting to the side to let him see inside the cabinet a little better.
Zoro crouched down and looked over the bubbling jars in the cabinet with intrigue, humming a bit before he looked over at you. "Can I watch, since it's not ready yet? I wanna see how this… process works." He then asked.
"Are you sure?? It's… kinda boring. I spend a minute or two checking them and sometimes burping them before going about my day." You told him.
"Mmm. I'll find you. At least at night I will." Zoro stated stubbornly. "Come get me during the day?"
"I… Yeah, sure, ya boozy fiend." You sighed, shaking your head in defeat. "Only if you promise to learn something from the process though."
"I'm interested enough that I want to learn. No problems here." He stated once again.
"Tsk, fine. You stubborn fool."
"Who the hell are you calling stubborn??" He objected.
"You." You stated, pushing him hard enough to tip him out of his squat and onto his ass. "Now shoo. I'm sleepy and need to go back to bed."
"Come find me in the afternoon then?" Zoro asked again, just to be sure.
"Yeah, I will." You promised with a yawn. "No touching now that you know where I've been keeping this."
"I won't." He groaned.
"Good. Don't make me send Nami after you. Heavens forbid anything gets in the way of her saving some cash." You threatened as you stood up, being sure to playfully wink at him before you left.
He was speechless, unsure of if he should test that threat or not. That playful wink of yours kept his silence strong as he watched you leave, feeling a heat rise to his cheeks. Inwardly, he knew what this feeling meant, but outwardly, all he could do from where he sat on the floor was mutter one single word after you left.
"… Shit."
It was getting harder and harder to push down this particular feeling, and he feared he wouldn't be able to keep it up much longer.
The next morning, you fulfilled your promise and brought him with you to check up on your honey mead, explaining what to look for and how to gently burp the jugs that needed it. He shower that he was serious as well when he returned in the evening as well, finding you an hour or so after dinner to do the same thing. This repeated and became your new routine for the next week, all your final checks involving him. He did a good job resisting the urge to ask for a sip, knowing he'd get one eventually anyway. His patience was very thin when it came to booze, but he held out quite well for this.
When the last day finally came around, instead of checking the brew in the morning with you, Zoro found himself being pulled aside by Nami instead, annoyed as she tugged on his ear.
"Nami! What the hell is your-ow! The hell is your problem?!" Zoro grunted as she tugged him out onto the deck.
"Where do you think you're going?" She inquired. "And why is it always with them? Have you finally confessed~?"
"What do you mean?" Zoro grumbled, glaring at her.
"Oh! So you're telling me you're not hanging out with them for their company and you're just being a little booze mooch." Nami then said nonchalantly, looking over her nails. "Typical for a sake hungry brute like you."
Normally, comments like that didn't bother him. For some reason though, this time, it pissed him off.
"I am not just tagging along for the booze I-!" He yelled; quite angrily at that, but stopped himself short of finishing when he realize what he was about to say.
"Hmm~? What is it, Zoro?" Nami hummed. "Come on and admit it."
"…You really are a witch."
"Thanks~" She sang. "I've got all day to wait for you to spit it out."
Zoro was silent for quite some time, focusing on the sea in the distance before he let out a deep sigh. "… I love spending time with them." He finally muttered. "The fact that they know how to brew mead just… makes them so much more attractive all of a sudden. I never knew and now I'm struggling to not fall for them when I was already having a hard time with that."
"Oh wow you are a mess. Have you been reading pages out of Sanji's diary or something~?" Nami teased.
"Wait- Sanji has a diary?"
"R-really? That's what you focus on?? I- forget I said anything." Nami sighed. "Focus. You've gotta tell them how you feel soon. I mean, you're gonna be sharing a fresh cup of mead tonight after all~"
"I can't." He protested.
"If you don't, I'll tell them myself. Being a witness to this pining is painful." She sighed.
"Mmm…" Zoro fought with himself internally, letting out a deep sigh before he finally gave her a proper answer. "Fine. I'll do it tonight. Just… don't hang around and listen in. I don't need you *hovering."
"Sure~! It's the least I can do for you." She said. "Now shoo. Go take a nap in an inconvenient location for one of us to trip over you."
Zoro watched Nami leave with a bewildered expression once again. "Why is everyone shooing me this week??"
Time seemed to pass painfully slow after his little talk with Nami. Zoro went and kid away to try and nap as Nami had so smartly suggested. It did not go as planned, and he ended up staring at the wall up in the crows nest for quite some time; all the way up until dinner time, as a matter of fact. Or, at least he thought it was around dinner time when he went back down. Turns out it was well past dinner time, and his portion of food was left out on the table for him when he arrived in the empty kitchen.
"… Shit." Zoro muttered. "Did I even sleep?? I must have…"
He shook his head, not keen on lingering on his own confusion much longer than he needed to. Then, he cleared his plate almost as quickly as Luffy would have if he were allowed, refocusing his thoughts on you and that mead again. When he glanced at the clock, he noticed it was about the time you would usually check up on it together; so he set off for the bar, hoping he was right this time and that he would find you there. Thankfully, that was exactly where you were, sat on the floor in front of that cabinet pulling out each of your jugs of wine.
You heard Zoro come in, which made you look up from your place on the floor and wave delightedly at him. "Hey! Took ya long enough. You weren't there this morning."
"Heh, you sound almost disappointed." Zoro said.
"Alright, alright." He groaned. "I just don't wanna screw up your process."
"Eh, if we lose some mead, we lose some mead. The whole things is a test run anyway." You shrugged.
"If you say so…"
"It's fiiine. So! You're gonna want to gently burp each jug before taking the air lock off, and then the rest of the lid completely." You told him, sliding one of the jugs towards him.
"Huh??"
You've been watching me do half of that process already." You huffed. "You really are a fool. Okay, just try and repeat what I do."
With a good roll of your eyes, you went about carefully letting letting off the gas from your jog before taking the lid off and allowing the sweet aroma of freshly fermented mean fill your nostrils. When you looked over at him, you made a gesture for him to give it a try. He looked at you, then down at the jug he sat in front of, and swallowed. He did not retain any information, as he had always been too busy focusing on you instead of what you were doing. He was doomed, but he would be damned if he backed out now. So, he tried to go about releasing the seal on the jar in the same way you had done, but…
He had a miserable failure instead, popping the entire top off of the jug by accident, causing the pressure to explode up into his face, blasting him with the freshly fermented honey wine. He tried to yell, but now had a mouthful of mead spraying down his throat, turning his screams of frustration to a garbled mess of a sound from the spray. The whole scene was entirely comedic, and you couldn't help but bust out with laughter at the sight of him: dripping wet with wine and a sour look on his face.
"I think you—heheh—I think you might have made a mistake there~" You giggled, trying your best to hold back as much laughter as you could.
It was such an addicting sound to him.
"Oh ha ha." Zoro huffed, wiping his face enough so he could see clearly. "This shit wasn't secure enough I swear."
"That or you misjudged your strength." You said, still laughing a bit. "Either way, it's fine. Only half of the wine was lost so we can keep that as our taste tester and share with the others while at least one of the other ones ages for a bit."
"You know, I thought you'd be more upset about that."
"Naaah. This is still just a test run. It was kinda worth it to see you get blasted in the face with wine anyway." You mentioned, letting slip some laughter again.
He swore it sounded like sweet singing, and he unknowingly flushed a faint shade of pink as you slid the last jar in front of him. That pulled him from his daze, and he looked down at the jar before looking back at you with a worried expression on his face.
"You'll be fine. I'll guide you this time so you can get a feel for it, and not get blasted in the face again." You reassured him, reaching over and grabbing his hands to hold the air lock again. You noticed that he froze, but quietly ignored it and carried on teaching, "Just slooowly lift that part and let the gas off until you can't hear it anymore. There should be no resistance when lifting it off for bottling." you finished explaining as you guided the amount of force he used.
Zoro was beet red at this point, watching as the lid popped off with ease after a gentle let-off of gas, happy that neither of you got blasted by wine. It was painfully simple, and a wave of embarrassment washed over him at the fact that he needed your help. He sighed, hanging his head down while you placed the lid on the shelf with the others.
"Simpler than you thought, hey?" You chuckled, gently punching his shoulder.
"Yeah. Painfully simple." Zoro muttered.
"Ah get over it. You had a silly moment~" You hummed, siphoning the wine out into bottles before filling a thick glass for yourself. "You want some?"
He was silent for a moment, watching you take your first sips. He meant to say something to accept the offer, but blurted something else out instead, his subconscious taking over.
"I wouldn't have fucked it up if I didn't get stuck staring at you because of how attractive this whole hobby makes you." He blurted out all in one go.
Those words alone made you spit out your drink, completely shocked by his response and dousing him in wine once again.
"Aw c'mon, again?!" He complained.
"Sorry! Sorry I… Did not expect you yo say something like that." You apologized, putting your cup down. "Are you… Do you mean that?"
"I… yeah. I think I've fallen too deep in love by now. I've been falling for a while, but this hobby of yours; learning it and watching you has made me realize this and I can't, hide it anymore." He confirmed. "You're capable, you can brew, you're funny, what's not to love? I… really think I'm in love with you."
Outside, one could hear Nami deeply sigh. But inside, where it was just the two of you, you could only hear beating hearts and bated breaths before laughter spilled from you.
"You are a fool. That's quite a confession. I accept it though, you goof. It's such a you way to do it."
You grabbed his face and kissed him quickly, but sweetly, making his cheeks combust with a bright red blush. When you pulled back, he stared at you like a fish out of water for a moment, and you snickered at how he looked at you.
"You doin' alright there?" You asked him, raising a brow.
"Can you… do that again?" He then requested.
"What, kiss you?"
"Yeah."
"Of course I can." You hummed, leaning in again to give him a sweet kiss.
He truly indulged in it this time, tasting the fresh wine on your lips and noting its sweetness. He hummed, leaning his shoulder into yours as the seconds passed, getting closer and closer with each one that went by. A hand crept onto your thigh, your own resting on his shoulders. When he was satisfied, he parted from you, looking at you with a softness you hadn't seen in his eyes in ages.
"Would you like to actually try the wine, or did you get a good enough taste from my lips?" You chuckled.
"Mmm… later. I think… kisses are what I want more of right now" Zoro admitted.
"Oh really?" You hummed.
"Yeah. I'm sure it'll taste sweet, but it won't be as sweet as you." He went on.
"Jeez, how hard did you fall?" You teased, sounding a bit flustered.
"… Finally got you." He huffed, picking up on your tone.
"Oh shush, moss head." You said through laughter, slapping his shoulder again. "You are so lucky I… that I love you, you dork."
"Yeah, I know. I'm really lucky…" He sighed, sliding his arm around you waist to hug you close. "So lucky."
You felt him smile into your shoulder. Looks like he wasn't too worried about getting a taste just yet.

I been getting into wine and mead making a lot lately as a little side hobby and it’s been fun. Helping me get through some of my recent mental health issues too.
Anyways I made an apple wine that ended up being 13.13% ABV so figured a cute little Nergal label would be perfect for it.
Just tasted my rhubarb mead since it finished fermenting and gosh it's good. Though I'm gonna backsweeten it before bottling because I feel like some sweetness would complement the flavours really well, so now time to wait 24h for sulfur to do it's job.
