The cons are mainly increased surgical time, a larger incision, and other post-op or intra-op complications. And cost. There isn't necessarily a long term health risk that we worry about with doing a gastropexy, it's just that it's extra surgery and extra money. It is important to note that a pexy doesn't prevent bloating, it just prevents to twisting part. So generally the decision to pexy or not is based on the breed and owner expectations. GSDs used to be kind of the poster children for GDV but I feel like it's more labs now. Theoretically any large, deep chested dog (except greyhounds for some reason) is more at risk. Danes are another breed with a high incidence. tbh I don't know if I've had any GSD puppy owners ask about doing a pexy. I think I've only had Dane and dobie owners ask about it.

also are you interested in talking about mordred more generally because i am always guaranteed to have emotions about him; also also, in the vein of more sutcliff-ish-roman-britain/welsh-arthuriana, have you read parke godwin’s firelord because it sure is. Something, i’d say on balance a good thing but definitely Something and i’m desperate to get a second opinion on it

I think it’s the abrasiveness that puts people off. That’s certainly the impression I’ve got from so many sites and reviews etc. over the years. And yeah, he’s a bit of a departure from Sutcliff’s more straightforwardly loveable protagonists. But I’m with you - I don’t know how it’s possible to read that book and NOT hurt for him and root for him to find his way back across the gulf.
