How did the ancient inhabitants of the hot Iranian desert keep themselves cool during the intensely hot summers where even being in the shade is very unpleasant?
Think about being in the middle of a hot dry desert, it would be a blessing to be able to drink cold beverages and eat ice cream in the middle of summer to cool off, or to keep your meat, dairy, fruits and other foods fresh for longer periods of time by cooling them.

Esas torres de ventanas alargadas que pueden parecer chimeneas son en realidad algo muy distinto. Se tratan de captadores de viento o torres de viento, un ingenio arquitectónico ancestral de origen persa para mantener frescas las viviendas bajo el sol abrasador de aquellas latitudes.
Estas estructuras conducen el viento de las capas superiores (más limpio y libre de arena que el que se puede encontrar "a pie de calle") hacia el interior del habitáculo y lo vuelve a expulsar hacia el exterior una vez ha renovado el aire de éste, creando una corriente que ayuda a refrigerar la estancia.
