mister sandman bring me a dream make him the cutest that i've ever seen. give him two lips like roses & clover and tell him that his lonesome nights are over …
⋆ ⭒˚。 [ paul anthony kelly , cis man , he + him , muse g. ] i can’t believe i just saw beauregard langford down at the rodeo ! you know, the thirty eight year old investor that’s been in willow glen for his entire life ? i always see them hanging around the amber lounge and live out in redbud manor — which sounds about right considering how much they remind me of the weight of a hand resting briefly on your shoulder , mirrors in dim light , love that lingers like humidity. most of the residents in willow glen tend to describe beau as being real disciplined , but the town’s rumor mill would say otherwise , claiming they can be rather arrogant behind closed doors. i’ve never seen that side of them , but lately we’ve all heard about how his mom still schedules his doctor’s appointments , which has gotten a lot of folks in town talking.

☾ 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗜𝗢𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗣𝗛𝗬 :
the minute he's born , conrad langford hit the ground running . an empire doesn't build itself , and it takes every family member's maximum effort to carefully craft a legacy that lasts , one that reaches beyond the lines of the state and bleeds into american history . an overbearing , commanding , frightening father who thinks parenting must include bullying , and a meek mother who keeps her mouth shut , only offering gentle words of kindness when his father isn't around to witness it , to call it ' emasculating ' . conrad doesn't remember much of his childhood — that's the way he likes it — and it's really only bits and pieces : fishing on the bayou with local kids , running barefoot through the mud , getting his mouth washed out with soap , staying out until the lightning bugs come out to avoid going home . . . it's a history he doesn't care much to revisit . after all , ambition is a future - oriented sentiment .
but he does remember her . not the woman he ends up marrying , a strategic union between the langford - byrd families that just made sense . . . but marie - claire leblanc . he's never forgotten her frizzy golden hair that looked like a halo in wet , hot summer days , her wonky gap teeth crammed into a mouth with so much joy it spreads to others , how she worked a fiddle like no one's business . marie - claire was dirt poor , eight children crammed into a three bedroom home with weeds crawling up through the floorboards , but conrad didn't care much ; she looked like an angel and sang like one , too . it would've been a simple life , him and marie - claire in a small home on the bayou , they'd be poor but happy . but naturally , he knows his family would never approve of the two of them . and life had different plans : soon enough , conrad is at university in rhode island as was pre-ordained for him by his father and older brother , studying something he cares about only marginally . in truth he hates being up north : he can't wait to return to the warmth , the food , the community . . . marie - claire . but things are different now : he's no longer a boy , and he's expected to act like the man his father has forced him to be , to fit into a mold that had been crafted for him without his input . upon his return he's quickly introduced to vivienne byrd — beautiful , polite , charming , respectable name . . . conrad figures he could do worse . she's the daughter of a president , after all — that's more than he could say about himself . so , as all self - respecting men of the era do , conrad prays about it , near constantly . for weeks he asks for guidance , compassion , true love . he asks for any sign to not obey his family's wishes , for permission to follow his heart , for any divine intervention . . . but he doesn't seem to hear back . he tries to take comfort in god's plan , but he can't help the pit in his stomach when he looks at vivienne , perfect in her own right . . . but she's not marie - claire .
soon enough , conrad and vivienne are married , and he manages to convince himself enough that this is what he's always wanted — a respectable wife , a prolific career as a political risk consultant for the senate , three beautiful children raised to the best of their ability . but his mind wanders sometimes ; not openly , but here and there he'll wonder what marie - claire's up to , who she ended up marrying , an ugly twist in his stomach at the thought of her children bearing another man's features . he doesn't tell vivienne , of course , nor any of his friends — marie - claire is personal , like a songbird locked in the cage of his heart for safekeeping . one day his sister calls , sharing news that she'd run into marie - claire in their hometown and gotten her address . so he decides to write her , the guise of a longlost childhood friend named ' mc ' that he's interested in catching up with . and , to his joy , she replies . quickly their ' reconnecting ' turns into multi - page letters , his careful script penned in expensive fountain pen , her chicken scratch carved out in purple ink . and for a while , he's convinces himself he's not crossing any lines . besides , he's not doing anything wrong , just keeping up with an old friend . he loves vivienne , the woman who keeps him alive , gave him his children , is privy to his life in a way no one else has been or ever will be .
he raises his children in the way busy fathers do : at arm's reach , from a distance , with the intention of tailoring strong young men to take on this dog - eat - dog world . he's tough on his boys , rubbing dirt into their scrapes and giving them intense pep talks about what it means to be a man at the sports field . conrad jr comes home high one night , and conrad sr makes him spend the night sleeping on the porch , no blankets or pillows . his father was even more commanding than he is , so he thinks he's doing the right thing — carving them into strong young men without realizing that he's whittling too much away . pressure turns coal into diamonds , after all .
conrad jr is everything a father hopes for : brave , athletic , handsome , smart . and he believes he can handle the pressure : conrad sr is tough on him , yes , but it's for his own good . he's proud to show off his son in high - profile rooms , clapping him proudly on the shoulder and encouraging him to share his accomplishments . he loves conrad jr fiercely , as much as a toxicly masculine father can . beauregard comes next , but conrad sr doesn't feel the same pride in him . he's always struggled to connect with beau the same : a shy child , conrad believes he isn't destined for the same success as conrad sr , so he focuses his energy on the eldest . perhaps his disregard of beau stems somewhere from his own childhood , his own role as the middle brother sandwiched invisibly between a heroic older brother and a pretty , tenacious younger sister . perhaps he carries resentment that he believes beau can do whatever he pleases , or love whomever he pleases . conrad sr has always struggled to see himself in beau : dark eyes , thick hair , a softness he couldn't identify with . he looked like his mother , yes , but certain traits made conrad question whether beau was really his son at all . finally camille enters the picture , a tiny , determined , strong girl who seems to outsmart all of them at once . he's never been able to say no to her , and conrad dotes upon her fiercely and openly , showing a level of softness and love to her that the boys never received .
over all , he's proud of the family he's built : a wife who plays the part beautifully , an eldest son who carries the langford name with pride , another son whose career in finance is nothing to scoff at , a daughter who chooses to build a name for herself despite not needing to . for a while , he decides to stop communicating with marie - claire , to refocus his attention on being grateful for what he has . conrad sr , for a short time , is unexpectedly empathetic with the family : he takes vivienne for genuine dates , listening to her stories over a candlelit dinner , he takes the boys to various sporting events and on fishing trips , camille gets taken on monthly shopping trips to dallas for some father - daughter time . for a period , he's content . he loves his family , and tells them so . . .
but it's too good to be true : conrad jr passes unexpectedly , the result of the weight of the pressure placed on his shoulders . conrad's always been somewhat solitary , but now it borders on isolation : he spends long days at work , coming home to take dinner in his home office , door locked . he had quit smoking sometime in his early 20s but he picks it up again , a perpetual reek of smoke and scotch emanating from him . he's devastated , but doesn't tell anyone — it's not what manly men do . he doesn't want to punish the family with his absence , but he doesn't want to make it worse either , torturous thoughts considering if he was too tough , not kind enough , if he pushed too hard . . . time passes and he never really recovers , not fully anyway . where he'd been a proud father before , he'd become even more emotionally absent now . conrad jr's death causes him to reconnect with marie - claire again , but where letters used to be their medium , he now mostly calls her . he has an independent phone line in his office , careful to avoid using the family's home phone to avoid anyone listening in on another line . the letters continue , but phone calls , and then emails , are more practical . he doesn't really care if anyone knows about marie - claire — her name identified as mc in his personal effects , a lazy pseudonym that can easily be explained away — figures the kids are old enough to know , that if they were to find out he'd been talking to another women his entire marriage they'd be grown enough to handle it . he loves vivienne , of course , but he's also always carried a quiet resentment .
eventually conrad retires from his political career , driven by grief and the offerance of a handsome pension . but the silence that comes day in day out without a job to fill time with makes him angry . he becomes more aggressive , harsher , drinks more , spends less time connecting with the family . he throws himself into property development , buying up dilapidated homes in willow glen for cheap and renovating them , selling them off for a handsome profit . but he doesn't do it for the money , he just does it to pass the time . he knows that willow glen , known for being a sleepy town , could offer so much more — could be somewhere worth taking a weekend trip to , or establishing one's family within close enough proximity to dallas while enjoying the benefits of small town life . of course there is ample money in willow glen , wealthy families a dime a dozen , names he's known for decades . out of boredom , conrad starts sharing his ideas for revitalization with others , getting an idea of what the folks in the town are wanting . and suddenly , impulsively , he's running for mayor . he's a shoe - in , naturally : he's had a prolific political career , him and his family are respected members of the community , he cares deeply about the town , preserving its charm while also revitalizing its economy , and it works : conrad langford becomes the mayor of willow glen .
it's been just over two years into his tenure and the general consensus is happiness , if not general pleasant apathy , towards his campaign . the older generation appreciate that he's one of them : he dons unpretentious , sun - faded workwear on the daily , drives an old truck around town , attends church on sundays and performs exactly as a good christian man should , somehow always knows how to say the right thing . he's not known for being incredibly flashy , but the langfords still have an air of superiority about them : he's got formal suits he wears when required , vintage cufflinks that could pay someone's rent for a year , a beautiful wife whose philanthropic work is the heartbeat of the city , children with respectable careers and respectable partners . he performs beautifully , but evenings are different : conrad is often found alone on the back deck in an old rocking chair , two fingers of expensive bourbon in a rocks glass , staring out at the dancing spanish moss as cicadas sing lazily , a dozy yellow lab splayed out at his feet as the evening light fades into night .
he misses conrad jr all the time , a plague he's been unable to escape from . sometimes he'll talk to him out loud on the back deck , depending how much he's had to drink . on rare occasions he'll even allow himself to shed a tear or two for a minute , before rebuilding his composure swiftly after . he tries to keep this from being visible , doesn't want anyone to know how his heart aches for his son . if it gets too much in the middle of the day , conrad will find himself haunting a pew in the local church staring up at the image of jesus on the cross , wondering how a just and loving father , a creator , could put his child through such hell . how could god have done this to him , a devout - enough man born into christianity ? if he's honest with himself , he wonders if he's being divinely punished for pushing conrad jr so hard , for telling him that there is only one path to success . as if conrad sr himself is being hurt by his heavenly father is a mirror of the way conrad jr was being hurt by his mortal father .
even now , he still keeps in touch with marie - claire , who he secretly considers the true love of his life . sure , he loves his children and his wife , but he also selfishly wonders what could have been . he's never been physically unfaithful , and does love vivienne at the end of the day , but some may say keeping in contact with your high school sweetheart for forty years blurs the line . he works hard to keep up the mask of perfection , of class , of all - american success . he knows everyone in town and most people know him , if not know of him , at least on the surface .
☾ 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗧𝗟𝗗𝗥 :
conrad langford sr grew up in a hungry new - money family in louisiana , where excellence was expected rather than encouraged . as a teenager he falls in love with a girl who embodies sunshine , but his family name requires him to attend a university up north and marry someone of worthwhile legacy instead . he convinces himself he's happy with this life — a beautiful , successful wife , one daughter , two sons , one of whom is everything conrad sr could hope for — but it all crashes down when conrad jr suddenly passes from suicide . conrad turns inward , his eldest son having been extinguished due to the pressure he placed upon him to make him perfect . his other children are great , sure , but conrad jr was transparently his favorite . the grief haunts him , eventually leading to conrad sr retiring from a prolific political career and getting into local politics to run for mayor . he's got a specific vibe about him : on the surface , he gives off power , money , respect , hard work , legacy . . . but spend too long talking to him and you'll pick up on a deep sadness , almost a resignation to living out his days simply getting by . he makes an effort to get to know everyone in town , asking them about their families , their careers , remembering details about them that essentially secure his position as mayor for years to come . but while he seems to know a lot about others , others seem to know very little about him . . .

HISTORY tw death
being the youngest langford and the only girl, camille has always been in a great position to get whatever she wanted, the word 'no' has never had much relevance to her
she was pretty young when her oldest brother died, but the way her family handled the loss is something that has negatively affected her view on grief/relationships her whole life, making her the totallllly well-adjusted, emotional unintelligent person she is today <3
after her brother's death, she pushed herself even harder to be a high achiever, staying at the top of the class and keeping involved in every activity and club she could to position herself perfectly
she started playing tennis at a young age and was a top player by the time high school rolled around, she thought about pursuing it in college but decided to focus on her studies/world domination
to be contrarian, she went to harvard instead of brown for undergrad, studying political science on a pre-law track
columbia law school followed ( where she slept with a professor with connections to one of the city's biggest firms totally not to blackmail him or anything of that sort )
she worked at said top firm for two years, getting Big Law experience and making a fuck ton of money
last year, she moved back to willow glen and took a position as a public defender; this is NOT because she is passionate about public defense, trust
this is because cami has political ambitions and part of her Plan is to seem like she's Of The People and For The People
PERSONALITY
uhhhh anyone ask for a beautiful, emotionally stunted, kinda mean girl boss?
you will not catch her slipping in public
soooo good at playing the game, is all smiles in public and then is tearing you apart in private
judgmental
never been to therapy, of course, and thinks that she doesn't need it
workaholic
selfish, will do what she has to do to come out on top
not above using her family name for things and does probably often
sees personal relationships as transactional, mostly aligns herself with people she thinks will help her get further in life
confident, ambitious, will not let herself fail under any circumstance
everything is about image, so who is she really? not sure camille even knows
⋆ ⭒˚。 i can’t believe i just saw CALLUM MORGAN down at the rodeo ! you know, the forty-seven year old businessman that’s been in willow glen for his whole life ? i always see them hanging around amber lounge and live out in the juniper — which sounds about right considering how much they remind me of the rebel prince who grew up, sleeves rolled up to reveal a luxury watch, the glow of copper stills, classic rock playing on a rare lazy sunday. most of the residents in willow glen tend to describe cal as being real magnectic, but the town’s rumor mill would say otherwise, claiming they can be rather restless behind closed doors. i’ve never seen that side of them, but lately we’ve all heard about how he can’t seem to resist his ex-wife whenever she shows up in town, which has gotten a lot of folks in town talking.

mash bill.
your story starts long before you take your first breath. it starts with conrad and magnolia, young and bright-eyed, brought together not by chance, but by their families. morgan and iverson are two dynasties entrenched in power and wealth; iron and oil building texas. their union makes sense, and it makes their parents immensely happy. to others, it brings the question — is it more a marriage or a merger? they wed in a beautiful ceremony that holds the attention of the entire state. despite outside suspicion, there is love, and it grows into a family of five. your brother comes first, the heir, and the legacy is secured. it will be a few years before you join him, just another piece in a game that you’re not yet equipped to play.
milling and mashing.
every detail about your birth is planned by your parents, but they forget to run it by you. you come early and disrupt everything. your mom is rushed to the hospital, emergency surgery; you two barely make it. it’s the start of the battle between what your parents want and what you will do. you attend the right schools, you have the right friendships, you go to the right places. it could be a storybook childhood, if it wasn’t incredibly boring to you. you are too active for the pristine clothes your mother makes you wear, too restless for your father’s lectures on what it means to be a morgan, too loud for the polite high society conversations. you want the sun on your skin, the scraped knees; you want the adventure.
fermentation.
your parents’ expectations become suffocating, and, as a teenager, the urge to rebel runs wild. you arrive late to galas, you say the wrong thing to important people, you make friends with the wrong kids, you search for trouble. you take pleasure in making your parents mad; it’s all a game for you, and you’re incredibly good at it. school is easy, even if you’re more invested in the next football game and the next party, and constantly choose to meet a pretty cheerleader behind the bleachers instead of going to calculus. the message to your father is clear — you can’t control me anymore. that works for a time, until the leash gets shorter and he makes it very clear that military school is an option. you don’t change, you just recalculate.
distillation.
university life suits you well. outside of your father’s watchful eye, you can find yourself. and love. you meet her at a party, and she is nothing like what your parents would want for you. that’s exactly what catches your attention. it’s fast and intense, exactly the way you like. the relationship moves with no brakes, no second-guessing, and only a month later, she tells you that she’s pregnant. you’re twenty and barely taking care of yourself, but you step up anyway. it doesn’t occur to you not to. when you introduce her to your parents, they demand you end the relationship — until you tell them about the baby, that is. they would rather have a daughter-in-law they didn’t approve of than a scandal they can’t contain. before the semester ends, you’re married.
angel's share.
when you were a child, you used to say you would leave willow glen and never come back, but you have two children under five and a wife. a modicum of responsibility is needed, and adult life is not easy. you take your rightful place in the family business and try to maintain a marriage simultaneously. one of those comes easier to you than the other. you think that you two are happy. or close enough to it. then you’re being served divorce papers, and she’s gone before you can fully process what went wrong. maybe you were never as happy as you thought. the kids stay with you; she has always preferred freedom to family life anyway, and willow glen has never been able to hold her.
maturation.
life goes on, as it does. your kids grow, and so do you. their mother still drifts in and out of town, and each time she does, you fail spectacularly at turning her down. you’ve made your peace with that particular weakness. it shouldn’t be a surprise to you when she shows up one day with a newborn that has your eyes. you don’t do the math, you just believe her. some things don’t require certainty. your family is happy, the conglomerate is thriving; it should be enough. it isn’t. the old restlessness surfaces, and you act on it. blue hour distillery starts as a hobby. weekends in an old barn, copper stills and no plan, and batches shared among friends. it grows into an award-winning label that people seek out. it’s wholly and stubbornly yours.
bottled in bond.
you sit on the seat that was always supposed to be yours, next to your older brother, ensuring the family legacy survives the loss of your father. you’re ruthless in a business negotiation, but indulgent with your own desires. you collect sports cars, watches, vintage signed guitars, fine wine, and rare bourbon. you date occasionally. they are always beautiful, usually younger, never serious enough to risk a second divorce. you try to be a better father to your kids than your father was to you. sometimes you fail. the self-awareness comes in flashes, usually at 3am with a bottle of your own whiskey and no one around. you’re not exactly who your father shaped you to be, but close enough. brilliant and successful and somehow still chasing his approval from beyond the grave.
was that ALEXIS CAIN i just saw over at GEORGIA’S ? you know , the TWENTY SEVEN year old BOTTLE GIRL that’s been around willow glen for SIX YEARS . people around town say she can somehow both be FLIGHTY & SELF SUFFICIENT , but if you were to ask her , she’d probably say she’s more like AN ABANDONED CHILDHOOD DREAM; ONLY MENTIONED IN THE JOURNAL SHE HOLDS DEAR, EARLY MORNINGS & EVEN LATER NIGHTS, THE SMELL OF FRESHLY MADE COFFEE AT 5AM, & A SOFTENING OF THE EYES AT THE SOUND OF HER DAUGHTER’S LAUGHTER . the town sure has been rumbling about her lately , apparently she DROPPED OUT OF MED SCHOOL & TURNED TO SEX WORK TO HELP TAKE CARE OF HER DAUGHTER . . . but who knows if that’s true , i guess i’ll just have to stop by WILLOW PARK & find out !

was born and raised in queensland , australia . her mother is a renowned plastic surgeon & her father a high profile politician so she knew all about high expectations from day one . she has #trauma from her childhood that i'll get into later but her relationship with her parents was strained years before she left australia & she hasn't talked to them in years .
growing up , she spent her free time reading or taking ballet lessons that she hated . alexis didn't really have friends and she was only close with one of her cousins so she lived a very lonesome childhood but she found solace in books & a diary she still holds on to .
she was always at the top of her graduating classes , her gpa higher than that of her peers every year she was in school . alexis hated the pressure that was put on her by her parents to be something but she excelled regardless , using her dream of being a pediatric surgeon as motivation & ignoring the words her parents threw at her .
alexis was in her freshman year of college when she got into her first relationship . it was tumultuous at best , alexis too naive & her then boyfriend too manipulative and trying too hard to come off as nonchalant in front of his friends . two years into their relationship , she started having an affair with one of those ‘ friends ‘ . they kept up the affair until a month after alexis graduated college , which is when she found out she was pregnant , packed up her life and moved to the states ( she chose willow glen mid emotional breakdown and was on a plane ten hours later ) .
although she never said anything to her boyfriend at the time ( lbr he didn’t deserve it ) , alexis left a letter for her soon to be baby daddy telling him she was sorry & that she needed to start over and find herself somewhere new .
seven and a half months later & earlier than any doctor would like , she was giving birth to a baby girl named elena . while she had been attending med school during her pregnancy , alexis eventually dropped out so she could be in the nicu with her daughter as often as possible . the first year of her daughter’s life was so traumatic for her that she doesn’t really remember it , only having pictures as proof that any of it ever happened .
alexis struggled to find a balance between motherhood , a healthy mind and work life , especially because she bounced around different jobs for a while just trying to keep her bills paid . she caught a little break when she started working at vortex . the pay was better and the hours were more convenient because she could still be present for elena during the day .
a random shift at vortex one night turned into alexis being propositioned . she scoffed at it initially , embarrassment and shame making her say no almost immediately but then she says yes . elena has a bad fall , requiring stitches & medicine she couldn’t afford and she says yes again . bills are a little too tight for her liking after she has to get a car part replaced and she says yes for the third time . and then she keeps saying yes until it’s a regular thing and she’s charging people a pretty penny to make sure her and her daughter can live a comfortable life .
alexis has since stopped struggling to pay bills , she takes trips when she feels like it , doesn’t think twice about splurging on elena anymore and she even opened a savings account for when she’s old enough to start going out on her own . every payday at vortex , alexis deposits her entire check into that account , relying on tips and money from sex work to fund the rest of her life . a part of her would like to be in med school still , working towards that dream of being a pediatric surgeon but she’s more than happy to let it go in favor of doing life with her daughter .
⋆ ˚ ✿ connections ⇢ wanted .
keeping these brief for now but !! i'd love best friend(s) , a frequent client ( aka someone she sleeps with for money , bonus points if they make her a sugar baby ) , perhaps the baby daddy that doesn’t know he’s a baby daddy , a potential roommate , a regular @ vortex that she loves , someone she hates for whatever reason ( the possibilities are endless ) , and an ex .

she's a mystery , she's too much for me , but i keep coming back for more . she's just the girl i'm looking for [ . . . ] an introduction to ARIA CATHERINE EDEN - WEST
── 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
⋆ ⭒˚。 [ dua lipa , cis woman , she & her ] i can’t believe i just saw ARIA EDEN - WEST down at the rodeo ! you know, the thirty year old magazine editor that’s been in willow glen for fifteen years ? i always see them hanging around willow square and live out in magnolia ridge — which sounds about right considering how much they remind me of the warmth of tequila as it slides down your throat , the refraction of a diamond that’s held just right in the sun , the shimmer of the glossy pages that coat a magazine & the lingering smell of perfume on a letter sent to loved ones even if they’re close by . most of the residents in willow glen tend to describe aria as being real headstrong, but the town’s rumor mill would say otherwise, claiming they can be rather avoidant behind closed doors. i’ve never seen that side of them, but lately we’ve all heard about her accidental ( drunk ) vegas wedding that she still has yet to acknowledge or annul , which has gotten a lot of folks in town talking.

has been living in willow glen ever since she was about 14 , her parents moved here after her dad got an offer to work at willow glen's first michelin star rated restaurant before opening his own .
a girl that has one of those bags that's always overflowing with stuff , genuinely like mary poppins anything you need she has in her bag
almost the entirety of her mother's side of the family has roots in the u.s. , but because aria's father is english , they lived in the uk for a large chunk of aria's life and only returned just before aria started high school which has left her with an accent she fights incredibly hard to keep .
celine ( her magazine ) has developed into a sort of parent publication of sorts that now has two subsidiaries : the juniper , a monthly newsletter that details news , events , culture and affairs specific to willow glen residents and refract , a mixed media production company specializing in digital content which produces her show , pub crawl , as well as a handful of podcasts and radio shows listened to globally .
aria , her mother , and her father all have the surname eden - west . elena had always known that when she married , she would keep the maiden name she'd worked so hard to give meaning of her own . though falling in love with thomas made her want to abandon that principal , aria's father had already taken the liberty of filing their marriage under eden - west , an homage to the past , a symbol of what was to come , and a union that only a love as unique as theirs could share .

aria eden - west was born to a bloodline destined for success . a lineage lined with gold that started at the hands of anderson west , speaker of the house who served alongside arthur langford during his term . it was a relationship built on trust and loyalty , one that endured , that left a lasting impact of respect and dignity stamped to the west name that still lingers in the hearts of the nation today . elena west was the first and only daughter born to a line of sons . a family tree riddled with too many successors fighting for a seat on their family's throne that she knew the only way to be more than a pawn in a game of chess she didn't want to play was to make a new kingdom of her own . and so , weston co. was born . a company that leaned not the strength of her family name but instead on the value of her product .
determined to give the ' every day woman ' access to jewelry that was both stylish and durable , allowing them to pay no mind to the usual wear and tear that came with being a twentieth century housewife . j.c penney was the first to invest , lining their shelves with what would soon become weston co.'s coveted cuff bracelet , an indisputable hit during the holiday season which made penney’s rich and elena even richer . over the coming decades she’d break the glass ceiling of the j.c penney’s jewelry section , open her own boutiques , and little by little inch closer to the edge of rodeo drive where weston co. now resides with the rest of the world’s greatest designers .

you grow up with the world at your fingertips . everything you want is given to you before you have to so much as ask . it’s the typical life that’s afforded to a child like you , educated in the nation’s best private schools ⸺ it’s comfortable , you’re comfortable , but why does that make you feel so guilty ?
technically the first on your side of the family to truly be able to reap the benefits of your nepotism since you were born , you find it impossible to shake the feeling that a life like this is one that needs to be earned . not that you’re complaining , people would kill for this life and you know that you’re lucky to live it . you don’t resent it , in fact you cherish it , but you can’t help from asking yourself one thing : what have you done to deserve this ? a question both you and the tabloids seem to keep wondering .
as you grow up , you realize that while your parents find their joy in creating , you find yours in learning . all throughout school , you spend your time with your nose happily buried in a book , not so much so that they were all that you had but enough to where no matter where you were, you couldn’t wait to go home and read a chapter or two before bed , flipping pages in the dark no matter how many times your doctor warned you against it . you find yourself drawn to your studies , craving the stuffy smell of the library and the validation that made it impossible to wipe the smile from your face when yet another assignment made its way back to you with near perfect marks . you excelled at every subject , but writing was always where you found yourself returning the most . the only one ever excited to be assigned a paper on any given day , you love getting lost in the process of research , in the art of discovery and the relief that comes in finding what you’re looking for .
you want more out of life , as grateful as you are for your parent’s support you feel terrible taking it from them — is it true what everyone says ? would you really be nothing without your family name ? going to college feels like the only way to get away from it all , to silence that voice in your head that tells you the only thing you’ll ever have to show for yourself is a company you don’t even really own . you go to columbia , but not without scrutiny . impossible not to overhear the whispers of your peers that swear they have you pieced together , that are completely certain your family’s name ( or perhaps their generous donation ) is the only reason you’ve made it this far . they put a chip on your shoulder , and it’s only up to you to figure out how to get it off .
it’s not until your senior year that you find the thing that would eventually become your life’s purpose . céline was meant to be nothing more than your final project , a theoretical magazine complete with three articles on art , entertainment and current events that was supposed to be for your professor's eyes only . but you’ve never found yourself working so hard at something in your life , not only determined to make your final project your best one yet but actually interested in the process at hand . you found yourself excited to go home to write and research , so many nights spent watching the sun rise while you fooled around indesign tweaking the smallest details until they sat just right on the page .
you’re not quite ready to own a company yet , the thought of inheriting the one that’s had your name signed on it sign the day you were born still sometimes makes you feel sick , so you’ll have to find another way to turn this into something more sustainable for the person you are right now .
you reach out to a couple of friends who reach out to a couple of friends and before you know it you’re being asked to pitch an idea for a youtube series , one that puts a new edge on the predictable world of celebrity interviews — and thus , pub crawl is born . it’s probably not the best idea , inviting celebrities for a day of recorded and publicized drinking all while asking them questions about their lives and careers , but maybe that’s exactly the point . pub crawl becomes an instant success , rising to viral fame after tom holland came to the show and completely spoiled the upcoming avengers movie after he’d gotten tripped up by one of your tricky questions .
it’s been a hit ever since , each season only growing bigger and bigger until you find yourself being invited to interview celebrities at the red carpet of some of entertainment’s biggest events . people love you , they find your interviewing insightful yet playful , flirtatious yet elegant , captivating in every way as is obvious by the millions of views garnered by your interviews at the grammy’s , oscars and of course , the met gala .
you get three seasons deep into pub crawl before you realize that though hosting this show makes you happy , it doesn’t make you feel complete . sure , it’s fun picking your guests' brains about their most recent projects but it doesn’t feel like enough . you want to talk about what’s really going on in the world , about art , history , fashion , design , and give voice to the people who do it best . so , céline is pulled back out from the depths of your google drive , a dream you’re now determined to make into a reality especially now that you have all of the resources to do it on your own . for the next year , any time that isn’t spent filming pub crawl is dedicated to turning cèline into the publication it’s meant to be , gathering a team of writers , editors and designers to make certain that it lives up to the potential you’ve always known it had .
it’s been seven years since its official launch , and you couldn't be more proud of what you've built . a brand that stands on it's own , a publication who's authenticity is anchored by the strength of the team who creates it . a magazine that's become more than just something that's read , but a living source of content that's grown alongside you during each season of your life . it's helped you plant roots of your own , the branches of which continue to soar to heights you always knew were possible .
⋆ ⭒˚。 [ ashley moore, cis woman, she & her. ] i can’t believe i just saw zarina whitney down at the rodeo ! you know, the thirty - two year old assistant & freelance photographer that’s been in willow glen for ten years ? i always see them hanging around moonlight drive in and live out in magnolia ridge — which sounds about right considering how much they remind me of fiddling nervously with a necklace that is never taken off, having a smile grow even if there is no real meaning behind it, losing to insomnia and spending the night wandering streets that feel unfamiliar, using tv shows as background noise while doing anything because silence is scary . most of the residents in willow glen tend to describe zara as being real loyal, but the town’s rumor mill would say otherwise, claiming they can be rather reserved behind closed doors. i’ve never seen that side of them, but lately we’ve all heard about her possession of pictures that show truths that could ruin people’s lives, which has gotten a lot of folks in town talking.

full name: zarina adara whitney. nickname(s): zara. date of birth: tbd, 1994. gender: cis woman. pronouns: she & her. romantic / sexual orientation: biromantic bisexual. place of birth: chicago, illinois. languages: english, spanish.
faceclaim: ashley moore. hair: dark brown. eyes: dark brown. height: five foot eight inches / 173 cm. build: athletic, toned. tattoos: tbd. piercings: tbd. scars: tbd.
mother: samara whitney. status: deceased. father: oliver harris. status: alive. sibling(s): to be added. status(es): alive. children: none. vice: resentfulness. virtue: patience. weather: sunny but chilly. food: smash burger and fries. beverage: black coffee.
zarina was never meant to live a life that felt ordinary, shaped early on by a mind that moved faster than the world around her and a childhood that never quite fit the mold it tried to follow. she was born in chicago, the daughter of a man whose name carried weight and a woman who carried everything else. oliver harris was present in the ways that could be measured — milestones remembered, expectations quietly set — but it was samara who raised her, who left her own home behind to build something in a city that was never meant to be permanent. they never married, and zarina took her mother’s name, growing up in a space that existed just slightly outside the lines of her father’s carefully maintained life. it didn’t take long for it to become obvious that she was different, that whatever path she was on would not resemble anyone else’s. skipping grades became routine, normalcy something her mother tried to preserve but could never quite hold onto, and by fifteen zarina had already stepped into university, her future narrowing into something precise and inevitable as she moved toward medicine with a focus that felt less like choice and more like design.
everything held, steady in its own way, until it didn’t. in her third year of medical school, somewhere between exhaustion and routine, she got the call that split her life cleanly in two — an accident, sudden and unforgiving, her mother gone before anything could be done, pronounced dead on scene with a finality that left no room for denial. whatever structure zarina had built for herself collapsed under the weight of it, leaving behind something hollow and unrecognizable. she withdrew from medical school without hesitation, not out of uncertainty but because nothing about her life made sense anymore. the months that followed blurred into something shapeless, grief settling in quietly but completely, cutting her off from everything that had once defined her. her father tried to reach her, in the only ways he knew how, but zarina met it all with distance, pushing away concern, expectation, and anything that required her to engage with a world that had already taken too much.
leaving chicago wasn’t a decision so much as an inevitability, a quiet shift toward something that didn’t require explanation. willow glen had always been there in fragments — brief visits, familiar names, a side of her family she had never fully known — and when she arrived, it was less about belonging and more about not staying where she was. she spent her first weeks with the whitneys before settling into the house her mother had always intended for her, a place that felt both foreign and inevitable all at once. the town welcomed her the way it welcomed everyone, warm and watchful, the kind of place where people seemed to know more than they said and nothing stayed hidden for long. zarina exists there now in that same in-between state she’s always occupied — not the prodigy she once was, not the person she was supposed to become, but something quieter, more uncertain. for the first time, there is no clear direction forward, no carefully constructed plan to follow. just a town that feels too small for secrets and a life she has yet to decide what to do with.
𝘵𝘭𝘥𝘳 . . . her life
zarina grew up in chicago as the daughter of a powerful but distant father and a devoted single mother, quickly set apart by a level of intelligence that pushed her far beyond a normal childhood. a child prodigy, she skipped grades, enrolled in university at fifteen, and went on to medical school with both her parents’ support, though it was always her mother who remained her constant. everything unraveled in her third year when her mother died suddenly in an accident, leaving zarina to withdraw from school and disappear into her grief, pushing away her father and everything else in the process. after months of barely existing, she left chicago behind entirely and moved to willow glen, texas, seeking out her mother’s family and settling into the life her mother had quietly prepared for her — not to start over, but simply because she no longer knew where else to go.
⋆ ⭒˚。 [ stephen kalyn, cis man, he/him. ] was that jason dorsey i just saw over at vortex ? you know, the twenty-eight year old professional nhl player that’s been around willow glen for his whole life. people around town say they can somehow both be emotionally immature and socially effortless, but if you were to ask them, they’d probably say they’re more like bruised jaw hidden behind a cocky grin, gold necklaces tangled against a bare chest, chipped veneers from a fight he started. the town sure has been rumbling about them lately, apparently they got caught tossing a fan's letter in the trash after a game . . . but who knows if that’s true, i guess i’ll just have to stop by redbud manor and find out !
the dorsey family made waves the moment they arrived in willow glen. people still talked about it years later — the sprawling estate built on the hill overlooking the water, the gala parties thrown before the paint had even dried, the way rich men suddenly started buying property nearby because if the dorseys were investing, there had to be money in it. officially, they claimed they wanted a quieter place to raise a family away from houston. something slower. safer. more “grounded.” in reality, the dorseys saw opportunity where everyone else saw undeveloped land. willow glen wasn’t home. it was strategy. and the dorseys had built an empire off knowing where profit would bloom before anyone else did.
by the time jason was born, the family had already rooted themselves deep into the town’s foundation. businesses, sponsorships, charity boards, rink donations — the dorsey name was everywhere. and jason? he arrived as the golden child. the youngest. the only son. the heir people had been waiting for without saying it out loud.
his sisters noticed the difference before he ever did. the rules bent for him in ways they never bent for them. where his sisters were expected to behave, achieve, and represent the family perfectly, jason was indulged. excused. celebrated for the bare minimum. their father called it “raising a boy right.” his mother called him her miracle baby. everyone else simply learned that consequences stopped at the dorsey front gate.
still, despite the resentment that occasionally simmered beneath the surface, jason adored his sisters in his own complicated way. they practically raised him between their parents’ endless galas, business trips, and public appearances. his oldest sister was the stern one — always dragging him out of trouble, covering for him when he stumbled home drunk at sixteen, threatening to beat up upperclassmen that tried corrupting him before she realized he *was* the corruption. another sister was softer with him, the one who snuck him out for late-night drives and listened whenever the pressure got too loud in his head. they knew him better than anyone else did. knew the ego was mostly performance. knew how desperate he was for approval despite acting like he didn’t care about anything.
because underneath all the entitlement and charm, jason grew up terrified of disappointing his father. his father had been a legend long before willow glen knew his name. brutal on the ice. larger than life. the kind of athlete men admired and sons spent their whole lives trying to become. from the moment jason could walk, a hockey stick was shoved into his hands. his childhood smelled like sharpened skates and cold rink air. early morning practices. blood on the ice. his father barking at him from behind the glass. harder. faster. again.
people assumed hockey came naturally to him because of who his father was. the truth was worse — it *did* come naturally to him. jason was genuinely talented. terrifyingly so. he had instincts you couldn’t teach. vision on the ice that made coaches overlook everything else. but talent became its own kind of pressure. because if he failed despite being gifted? there would be no excuse left. for the first time in his life, hockey became the one thing his money couldn’t completely fix.
instead of facing that fear head-on, jason drowned it in distraction. parties. girls. booze. fights outside bars. reckless nights that ended with his name scrubbed from police reports before sunrise. willow glen knew him as charming trouble wrapped in designer clothes and a varsity smile. teachers passed him when they shouldn’t have. coaches defended him. parents rolled their eyes and muttered “boys will be boys” because the dorseys donated too much money for anyone to push too hard.
in high school, he dated the same girl for nearly three years — a relationship that surprised everyone because it was the closest thing to serious jason had ever been about anything besides hockey. she was smart, grounded, came from an old willow glen family unimpressed by money. she challenged him constantly. called him out when he acted like an ass. for a while, she made him softer around the edges. people swore she was the only person capable of telling jason “no” and having him actually listen.
their breakup became town gossip for months. some said he cheated. others said she got tired of cleaning up after him emotionally. the truth was probably somewhere in the middle. jason acted like it didn’t affect him, immediately throwing himself deeper into parties and hookups afterward, but people close to him noticed the shift. he became louder. meaner sometimes. more reckless. like he was trying to prove he didn’t care when really he cared too much.
despite everything, he managed to maintain a decent enough GPA to stay enrolled at north texas university, where he became center for the cougars hockey team. college only amplified the version of jason people already knew — frat parties, campus celebrity status, expensive habits funded by family money, girls hanging off his arm, professors giving second chances he didn’t deserve. but on the ice? he was undeniable. that was the frustrating thing about jason dorsey. no matter how badly he fucked up off the rink, he kept delivering on it.
during the combine, scouts saw exactly what they wanted: size, charisma, aggression, natural playmaking ability, and the kind of confidence that can’t be coached into someone. the boston yellowjackets took the chance on him knowing full well he came with baggage. maybe because hockey has always had a soft spot for boys like jason — talented enough to excuse, handsome enough to market, reckless enough to keep interesting. now he’s a rookie with too much money, too much ego, and an entire legacy hanging over his head. the organization already whispers about him being the future face of the franchise. the next great center. the next dorsey legacy.
if he can keep himself from self-destructing long enough to become it.
