An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
There is something deliciously wrong with my brain as I can't stop thinking about the Newsroom and Mac and Will. And I started writing it as Mack and later discovered it was Mac but that's because one of my mentors and good friends was/is a Mac and she passed away last year and I think I needed the separation. They're alike only in their whimsy and hilarity but that's enough.
Also I wrote a second story to the first one I posted, it's called Heavenly Hosts, also Newsroom. I don't see this obsession stopping any time soon.

Honestly the whole album Historians by Lucy Dacus screams Will/Mac to me. But mostly Post-breakup but pre/early canon Will/Mac as Nonbeliever.
Here is the most relevant verse, about The Incident. But frankly there isnt a single miss in the lyrics for this one in regards to Will/Mac so full lyrics under the cut.
You deal an unspoken debt.
No kindness without wanting something back.
Do I owe you or did I forget?
Or are we even after all of that.
You shook my hand and Goodbye.
You'll never let me see you cry again.
What could has come from learning to pretend?
You said I could have been a better friend.
[Verse 1]
You threw your books into the river
Told your mom that you're a non-believer
She said she wasn't surprised
But that doesn't make it okay
[Verse 2]
You say nobody loves a city
Nobody loves what can't love them back
One-way ticket in your pocket
What happened to the charm of a small town?
[Chorus]
If you find what you're looking for
Be sure to send a postcard
You promised you'd never forget
The little ones when you got big
[Verse 3]
You deal in unspoken debts
No kindness without wanting something back
What do I owe you? What did I forget?
Or are we even after all of that?
[Verse 4]
You shook my hand and said goodbye
You'll never let me see you cry again
What good has come from learning to pretend?
You said I could've been a better friend
[Chorus]
If you find what you're looking for
Be sure to send the new address
And if you find what you're looking for
Write a letter and tell us what it is, and tell us what it is
[Outro]
Everybody else, everybody else looks like they figured it out
Everybody else, everybody else looks like they figured it out
Everybody else, everybody else looks like they figured it out
Everybody else, everybody else looks like they figured it out
