I’m certain it’s a blessing the photos from tonight (so far) are a bit blurry. More damning photographic evidence is forthcoming. That said, I sure felt lucky to be part of celebrating #Michigan’s vibrant and incredible theatre culture, helping host tonight’s #WildeAwards. So much damn talent and so many amazing humans. Thank you, @davidjkiley, for taking a chance on me. And inviting me back! @marinheinritz and @erpster for giving me a friendly nod from the front row every now and again. @therichardpayton for being an absolute scream. Alex Kunitz who is a rock and a comfort as a stage manager (so grateful). Friends @stefanieworth (Mosaic Youth Theatre) and @billywhitehouse (Royal Starr Film Festival) who braved a muggy August Monday night to watch the show for no other reason than kindness. My incredible employer Kerr Russell who supports this community and this side of my personality. And my sweet husband John and loving mother Susie who are my biggest champions. It’s nice when you can call your mom at 1 am on your way home and she can’t wait to hear all the details. My take on a special day spent at The Barn Theatre School for Advanced Theatre Training to see the musical #Rent - excerpt: "The Barn’s production, populated as it is with Millennials channeling the Gen X oldies, got that irony fully. From the flawless jungle gym of a set by Samantha Snow to the pitch perfect Archie-meets-Salvation Army pop of Michael Wilson Morgan’s costumes, the able cast was aided and abetted by a technical team – and by Brendan Ragotzy’s sure-handed direction – that embraced the early 90s conventions fully yet wasn’t afraid to wink at the more twee 'lost generation' conventions." Well, the 2017 #WildeAwards Ceremony is in the history books. And a truly special night celebrating the best of Michigan theatre is over … for another 365 days. As a kid, I was obsessed with game shows and awards ceremonies, so to suggest that co-hosting last night with EncoreMichigan’s David Kiley was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream is no hyperbole. And more than a little dorky. If only I had Wink Martindale’s career. I was humbled to be amongst such theatrical and critical talent last night, and to see so many personal friends receive well-deserved recognition last night affirmed that good people who work hard do earn the spoils.
