Two cute ili pikas from isolated mountains in China. More after credits... This is a #repost from @wild.for.nature via @PhotoAroundApp Weird Animal Wednesday!! This cute little bundle of fur is called an Ili Pika! Not much is known about this species, and they weren’t discovered until 1983 and not seen again until 2014! They live in northwestern China in the Tianshan Mountains surviving at high elevations between 9,000 and 13,000 feet. The Ili Pika is a small mammal, only about 8 inches in length and has fur ranging in coloration from brown, grey, white, and black. They are herbivorous and construct their homes from piles of grass and hay. Studies have shown that there may be up to 2000 individuals, but only 29 have been seen. They are currently listed as an endangered species although no protection plans are in place.
