I've been trying to research cat genetics and I've come across CORIN and widebanding.
From what I've found, widebanding is polygenic and results in wider bands in agouti cats, producing a golden colour (or in cats with the inhibitor gene, chinchilla, shaded, tipped, etc).
CORIN, from what I've seen, is monogenic, and also causes widebanding? Or a modification of it?
I'm just wondering if you had more info on this? Is widebanding and CORIN different or the same? I think I've also seen widebanding being described as theoretical?

In very short: corin is a type of wideband.
With more nuance: To my understanding, wideband is a phenotypic description, it means a cat whose lighter agouti bands are wider than usual, often to the extremes. The genetics of wideband in general is still unclear and thus assumed to be polygenic (if it was one simple gene we'd know that already). This is also why they might call it theoretical: there is almost nothing proved on its inheritence.
CORIN is a gene. The corin-based colors are indeed widebanded colors and the CORIN mutations cause windbanding in themselves; insomuch it's fair to say CORIN is one of the wideband (golden) polygenes. However it might worth to make a distinction between CORIN and the "traditional" wideband, because they interact with silver differently, producing respectively bimetal and silver shaded.
Bimetallic: golden + silver. This phenotype is unique to corin-golden (sunshine in siberians).
To make everything even more confusing, i'm quite certain right now there are a lot of corins and corin-carriers who are simply called goldens; so in practice corin and other types of wideband are very much intertwined.
