Series of wood figurines, carved by me. Copied from stone idols of scythian and polovtsian (cuman) cultures, known as “kurgan stelae” or “кам’яні баби” in ukranian. These stone statues are found in Pontic-Caspian steppe area of modern southern Ukraine, southern Russia, north of Caucasus region, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.
For me this project was a way of reconnecting to my land (my families originates in steppe part of Ukraine, near the Azov sea), as I started my woodworking practice 1,5 year ago.
All figurines were sold to raise money to buy thermal weapon sight for ukrainian military, who defend Ukraine from russia at the moment, on the same area (south-east part of Ukraine), which is the origin of these kurgan stelae.

Bug hotel’s.
Recycling 2 old Zuperzozial corn starch 3D printed cups into bug hotels ready for winter .
The cups had started to break down after about 10 years of use so we stuffed the cups full of recycled coir (coconut husk ) matting .
I made some tripod legs out off cut hazel poles which were bound at the top with wire all to help encourage bugs to hibernate in the garden .

Eating Spoon
Just a short show-and-tell today because I needed a new eating spoon. I lost my old favorite a few weeks ago and as near as I can remember, it was about 20 years old. I remember this because it was cut from the end of a bow stave of a bow I love. Here is the new one made from Walnut harvested in southeast Missouri.
The growth rings helped determine the sweep to the handle.
It is satisfying to…
