Here in Pennsylvania, I live on land taken from the Lenape. They were a matrilineal group of clans, their numbers vastly reduced by sickness introduced by first contact with European colonizers. They were pushed out of the area by European expansion, then pushed further to Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Canada. My German ancestor defected from the British Hessian troops to fight in Washington's Army.
