I WANNA TALK ABOUT WHITEWARD

I was worried when I went in for my second look-through that I wouldn't be able to get any good thoughts in that weren't already clear because... Whiteward is so transparent in what it is! And it's so messed up!

But, going through it, I DID find some things I want to talk about actually!

Doesn't this contraption look disturbing? It looks more like a torture implement than a surgical tool.

Can you imagine being this bug, sitting up on that high seat, waiting for the attendants to do Turbo Fucked Up Surgery on you?

Also, I'm noticing the wheelchair beside it and it makes me wonder - was it prepped for the bug sitting on this seat? Waiting for them to be revived?

Also, side note - doesn't it look like something happened DURING operations for Whiteward to be like this? Like, it didn't just fade out of use, staying in the citadel unused - it's like time froze! There's corpses here, operations that weren't finished, the morgue still has hot coals and the fans are still moving - it makes me wonder what happened?

Also I have more about the whole "reviving" thing that I want to talk about - later, though. Later.

I had a tough time trying to figure out what this one was, I'll be honest. It has what looks like the cushions of the regular seats + the bench at the hospital top.

So far, I've landed on the idea that it might be some kind of a surgical table? And that they'd strap the bug to it. You can see rings on the side of it, but I'm not sure if those are an ornate design or if they're meant to be functional. Would like to hear people's thoughts on this

Okay, now I'll talk about the whole reviving thing!

Hey, isn't it fucked up that it seems like a bug not reviving from the operation was blamed on the patient? "Refuses to revive" implies a choice here! That's messed up!

Silksong seems to be dipping into themes of religious exploitation here and I'm obsessed with it. Something about "paying in faith" and, especially in the Underworks, you have to pay for basically everything - it makes you angry! It's fun!

Also, I'm not sure if the connection here is at all the same but - I thought it was still interesting to look at. Pins being used to inject silk forcefully and empowering the silk, vs pins being used to render one's silk useless.

Also another thing, I kind of wonder - do the pins stay inside forever, or are they removed at some point? Hm.
