I spent most of last week with the incredible Good Chance team, photographing Encampment, the Good Chance theatre dome’s residency on Southbank Centre’s river terrace. The Good Chance dome, originally created in the Calais ‘Jungle’, is a space of welcome, solidarity and openness. In residence at Southbank Centre as part of the Festival of Love, it sparked curiosity and empathy amongst audiences and passers-by alike. It was a week filled with so much joy, hope and generosity, and a terrific programme of performances and important, thought-provoking discussions.  

One of the highlights of the week was a brilliant performance by Cush Jumbo of a play with a difference - “White Rabbit, Red Rabbit” by the Iranian writer Nassim Soleimanpour.  Soleimanpour specifies that the actor should not see the script before stepping onto the stage. The text was sealed inside an envelope, and Cush Jumbo had no idea of its content until she opened the envelope just before the scheduled performance time.
