this is often the only time he has anymore to enjoy being in public; or, some semblance of it. on a rooftop, alone, overlooking the rest of the population as they socialize. the nice thing about cities is that there's always something happening. someone is bustling somewhere. someone is laughing at something. listening to the world move around him keeps him occupied.

it also illustrates his loneliness. profoundly so.

anything with lots of character or relationship development. that's always my favorite thing is to watch and kind of break down exactly how another character/their relationship to each other affects them because a lot of times it's not in way that i expect

this is the first one i'm not too embarrassed to talk about LMAOO he was a bassist in a tour rp. i'll never forget leaving that group and seeing someone else had taken him up and completely butchered his relationship and characterization </3. oh well

well, this is just my luck. that's the first thought that entered paris' head when they heard that val had been tapped to open for them. they've done their best to be civil, which isn't hard considering paris really doesn't have an ounce of vitriol for val in their body. they don't deserve to, after what they did. her actual feelings are the opposite of anger, or hatred, or . . . whatever. though they act largely indifferent, it's been torture of a different kind, knocking elbows with her in the green room and listening to her wow their crowds while warming up backstage.

now val . . . val may actually hate her. and paris can't blame her for that, but they can't pretend they share that sentiment. that's what val wants, they think, for them both to be at each other's throats 'cause those emotions are easier to deal with than the alternative.

❝ can't we just use all this as an opportunity to like, finally — finally put this thing behind us ? ❞ they say one night. the two of them are alone and tipsy, having run into each other on the way back from their respective nights out. val's trying to pick a fight [ or something, ] and like always, paris tries not to give in to her. they dig their heels into the ground and offer their best offhand shrug. ❝ 'cause like, i'm more than ready to just . . . be your coworker. and that's all. and we can just fucking stop skirting around each other like this, ❞

the words almost stop her throat up, mouth pressed in a straight line as val challenges her yet again. they can say they're over her as many times as they want, but it'll keep falling on two sets of deaf ears. paris' decision to step forward and grab her jaw [ pulling val forward and flush against her, ] is driven by the desire to shut her up . . . as well as the simple urge to kiss her that never fully died out.

[ who are they fooling here ? thumb running over her jaw to settle underneath it, lips lingering on hers for a short - sighted taste of the past. this is a love they won't get right. ]
