SUMMARY: in which you had to travel a few states away from home for a 3-month business trip that left you and Cody missing each other like crazy, so when it was time for you to go back home, you decided to surprise him. 🩷
“i’m missing you like crazy over here, babe. it’s not fair i haven’t been able to hold you in 3 damn months,” Cody huffed through the phone, a smile creeping onto your face once you sensed a pout on his face, “when will you be back again?”
“next Friday, baby,” you giggled, lying through your teeth while you drove, “i promise when i get back you can hold me for as long as you want.”
technically, you were supposed to go back home next Friday, but your trip was cut off a week early since the company you worked for had secured the deal they wanted earlier than expected. because of that, they sent you and your coworkers that tagged along back home, but you didn’t tell Cody any of that because you wanted to surprise him.
“i’m not even gonna let you go as soon as i see you walk through the door, love,” Cody chuckled as you laughed and adjusted your phone in your hand, “wait, are you driving? where are you going?”
“yeah, i’m heading back to my hotel,” you lied with a wide grin as you turned down the street where your house was, “i left my meeting a few minutes ago and called you after it ended ‘cause i wanted to hear your voice.”
“you’re so damn cute, i love you.” you could practically feel Cody’s love and admiration for you radiate through the phone and you let out a giggle as you turned off your headlights and pulled up in the driveway behind Cody’s vehicle.
“i love you too, sweet boy,” you giggled as you parked your car and turned off the engine before getting out, gently closing the door and sneaking over to your doorstep, “you sound like a kid in the candy store over there.”
“yeah, i miss your candy,” you picked up on Cody’s suggestive tone instantly and you smirked as you let out a giggle and rang the doorbell, causing Cody’s line to fill with the sounds of shifting, “what the hell?”
“who’s at the door, babe?” you asked innocently, biting down on your bottom lip to suppress a laugh, as you heard shifting again and leaned back a little to look up at the upstairs windows, seeing no movement in the blinds.
“i have no idea. it’s pretty late for someone to be here right now,” Cody replied as your ears pricked up at the sounds of footsteps through the phone and you smiled widely, “i’m gonna take you with me just in case i get kidnapped.”
“how am i supposed to stop you from getting kidnapped?” you laughed as you listened to him walk down the stairs and bit down on your lip again, listening to his footsteps come closer and closer to the front door while you pressed your palm against the peephole to keep your identity hidden.
“i don’t know, you could be a witness or something,” Cody chuckled as he reached the front door and looked through the peephole, his eyebrows slightly furrowing at not being able to see anything, “damn, it’s so dark i can’t even see. hold on, babe.”
Cody turned on the porch light and you smiled widely as he unlocked and opened the front door, his eyes nearly shooting out of their sockets at the sight of you. he stood shirtless and in a pair of sweatpants that hung low on his hips as a wide grin spread across his face and a laugh of shock fell from his lips, his phone slipping from his hand while he quickly engulfed you in his arms and lifted you up from the ground.
“oh, my—” Cody interrupted his sentence with another laugh of shock as he spun you around in his arms, making you laugh profusely while you wrapped your arms around his neck, “baby, i’m so fucking happy to see you!”
your cheeks started to burn from how hard you were smiling and Cody soon lowered you down to the ground as he kept his arms around your waist and his eyes scanned your face, taking you in like he hadn’t seen you in forever.
“i thought you were coming back next Friday?” Cody asked, his voice radiating with excitement, as you giggled and cupped his face in your hands, causing him to lean into your touch while you rubbed his cheeks with your thumbs.
“my company closed out their deal sooner than we thought so they let us go home a week early,” you smiled as he rubbed your back, “it took everything in me not to tell you, i just really wanted to surprise you since i know you missed me so much.”
“God, it’s like i’m dreaming,” Cody sighed blissfully as he cupped your face in his hands and stared at you with nothing but love in his eyes, “is this real life?”
“yes, Cody,” you giggled as you maintained eye contact and rested your hands on top of his, “this is as real as it’s gonna get, babe.”
“fuck,” Cody sighed as he lovingly kissed your forehead before pulling away from you, “go inside and i’ll get your bags from your car.”
you stood in the bathroom in front of the mirror finishing off your skincare as Cody stood behind you with his head on your shoulder and his arms locked around your waist, holding you against his body so firmly like you’d disappear if he ever let you go. the two of you stood in comfortable silence as you put away your skincare products and picked up your bonnet, about to slip it on over your braids but pausing once you realized you’d need Cody to move his head so he wouldn’t get hit with your hair.
“uh, Cody?” you called softly with a hint of amusement in your voice, a small smile on your face, as Cody’s eyes flickered to yours in the mirror and he let out a soft “hm?”, making your smile widen a little, “unless you wanna get hit with my braids, i need you to move your head so i can put my bonnet on.”
Cody smiled and leaned up from your shoulder as he grabbed your bonnet from you with one hand and used his other hand to grab a handful of your braids, “i’ll do you one better.”
your eyebrows raised and your smile gradually widened as you watched Cody put your bonnet on for you, adjusting your braids inside it while he rested the band of it against your forehead.
“did i do it right?” Cody asked, stuffing any braids left out inside your bonnet, as you laughed and helped him adjust your bonnet to your liking, your smile wide while your hands rested on top of his.
“yes, honey, you did,” you giggled, gently squeezing his hands, as Cody smiled and dipped his head down, pressing two kisses on your cheek while one of his arms wrapped around your waist and lifted you from the ground, “Cody!”
“you should be used to this by now, baby,” Cody laughed, carrying you out of the bathroom and towards the bed, “now i want you to tell me all about your trip and don’t leave anything out, even if you think it’s not important.”
you grinned and let out a small laugh as Cody laid in bed and pulled you with him, your back resting against his toned chest while he used his other hand to pull the sheets and duvet over the both of you. you shifted in his grasp and turned towards him as his other arm wrapped around your body and held you against him, one of your hands resting on his chest while the other rested on top of his bicep.
once you got comfortable in your position, you spilled all the beans about your business trip, even telling him little things like what restaurants you tried and how you styled your braids. you talked and talked and talked, and Cody just laid there listening to it all, his eyes watching you in admiration and his lips curling into a small smile while he listened attentively.
one thing about Cody, he was an amazing listener and such a sweetheart. underneath his WWE persona, he was a big softy for you, wanting to be near you, smell you, and hear you every second of the day. you loved it all though. you had never experienced anybody as loving as Cody, but he made it so easy for you to believe you were worth the princess treatment he gave you.
“am i boring you? i know i’m talking a lot.” you suddenly paused in the middle of your rambling and you watched Cody’s eyebrows quickly furrowed as he looked at you in disbelief, making you crack a small sheepish smile before laughing.
“don’t ever say anything stupid like that again,” Cody dismissed your questioning with a shake of his head and pulled you closer, your chest now flush against his while your legs tangled with his under the covers, “i’d listen to you ramble for the rest of my life if it meant i could keep you here with me forever.”
a wide grin spread across your face and you laughed as you cupped Cody’s face in your hands and pecked his lips, making him smile at you, “i love you a lot, you know.”
“i love you more, baby girl.” Cody smiled, his voice softening, as he leaned in and kissed you tenderly, making you smile against his lips while you returned the kiss.
the kiss was slow and passionate, filled with all the love Cody had been harboring for you since you were away. his hands rested on your lower back and his fingers rubbed your back soothingly as he tilted his head a little and deepened the kiss, eliciting a soft moan from you while your arms wrapped around his neck.
