       anna’s always kept her distance from the lightwood children. despite their many disagreements, she and robert have always agreed on that. she’s well aware of the damage she’s done, no matter how much ROBERT’S TRIED TO DOWNPLAY IT. she’s seen the hurt on maryse’s face from across the room at council meetings, the way he’d pulled away for awhile after max was born. she doesn’t want to make that worse.

       today though, it seems the universe is forcing her hand.

       she’s waiting outside robert’s office, waiting to BRIEF HIM on the latest reports from her contacts in the shadow market. something big is coming, she’s just not sure what. and then she sees a flash of dark hair and isabelle’s right there. she’s not sure what to say, not sure if the girl even recognizes her, but a breathy, ❝ ISABELLE, ❞ falls from her lips all the same. ❝ are you...is everything ok ? ❞

HE NEVER DID LIKE WORKING WITH ISABELLE ; it wasn't that she was weak ( she was stronger than anyone he knew, himself included ) or that she wasn't good at their job ( the only person who rivaled her was jace & clary ) but two narcissists never would blend well together.  they were both natural born flirts ; quick tongues & even quicker wit, talents that coaxed most people into doing whatever they wanted . . . but those talents didn't work on each other.  missions were spent arguing over who was right, arguing over who should take the lead . . . arguing, arguing, arguing ! tempers flared, mistakes were made & lance just didn't like it.  and yet no matter how many times he explained this to clary & jace, he seemed to always end up as her partner, anyway.
