You're well mannered, kind, and generally don't like breaking rules - something mister adrenalin chaser Wheeljack is a pro at. Optimus, with the support of Bulkhead, trust that you can more easily communicate with Wheeljack without stepping on any toes (unlike Fowler, who does not like the headache Wheeljack is)

Of course, Wheeljack doesn't listen to you, but promisingly he doesn't instantly go to argue with Prime that he doesn't need a babysitter. Unfortunately for you, that's because Wheeljack seems to get a kick out of pushing your buttons - you're just so easy to rile up! He's given you a plethora of new nicknames, which you pretend to not find endearing at all: tiny, pipsqueak, kid, champ - the first time he called you sunshine, you stopped what you were doing and turned to blink up at him, expression a potent mix of confusion and surprise. And the way you then scoffed, quickly turning away and rushing the conversation along?? Oh Wheeljack was sure to use that nickname the most!

It's endlessly amusing watching you trying to gently lecture him, gesturing about with your arms and fixing him with your sternest face possible - or even better, when you start flying off the handle at him, wildly pointing up at him about how he couldv'e gotten you both killed and that he can't just go jumping head first into danger like that!

As if you could ever actually boss him around (or that Wheeljack would actually let you come to harm)

Then one day, just as Wheeljack is prepared to drive out of the base to avoid a scolding from Ultra Magnus after an incident which left that Jackhammer temporarily grounded, you catch him. You try to convince him to rest up and stay at the base, if Ratchet or Magnus find out he snuck out he'd never hear the end of it. You expect a certain type of reaction from Wheeljack: you expect him to ignore you and just drive off, or to make some comment on how you need to relax or that you're not his boss

What you DON'T expect is for Wheeljack to, after a moment of consideration, offer if you want to tag along on a joyride

At first, you tell him no, you're not going on a joyride and you're not letting HIM go on one when he should be recovering. Wheeljack chuckles cooly in the face of your serious scowl, then smoothly unlocks his passenger door, his voice smooth as honey as he asks you to tell him you DON'T wanna ditch the borefest Magnus has in mind and go for a ride~

....Eventually, much to Wheeljack's smug delight, you agree to go. But you make it clear you're ONLY going along because SOMEONE has to make sure he stays out of further trouble! Nothing more. And you're only going out for an HOUR. Then, Wheeljack is to drive STRAIGHT BACK. No expections!

You ignore the way you shuffle in his seat as he casually replies with a "Yes ma'am~"

Contrary to your prior hesitance to indulge in a little harmless fun, you end up having an utter BLAST with Wheeljack! And you stay out well past an hour

Zooming around corners far too quickly, your hair wiping around you with the windows down, the roar of his engine almost deafening your elated squeals and cheers! It's the first time Wheeljack's managed to actually make you crack a smile beyond a mere amused twitch of your lips, and more so, it's the first time he's heard you laugh this much! He quickly decides he likes this version of you, laughing and smiling freely without worrying about rules or consequences. You're thrown back into your seat with with a loud laugh as Wheeljack pushes his speed dial to tick further up, telling you jokingly to hold on tight It's the most fun you've had in AGES!! (Though you do tell Wheeljack to tone it down a notch when he pushes it by going through an orange light)

As expected, when you do return to the base, you get an earful from Magnus and THEN Ratchet. You at least have the courtesy to appear guilty, bowing your head with your arms crossed over your chest, meanwhile Wheeljack couldn't look anymore uninterested if he tried.

A few days later you find yourself itching to feel that rush of adrenaline again, you know you could always ask Bee to take you on a ride, but you can admit that being able to hang out with Wheeljack and not have the interaction end in an argument was...nice. For all his smugness and habit to butt heads with you, Wheeljack was actually really fun!

Of course, by the time you gather your pride and drag yourself to the wrecker, trying to be casual as you ask him if you could go on another drive, the way a smirk slowly curls itself onto his dermas you just know he's not going to let you live this down because

Oh? Team Prime's resident little rule follower coming to him?? You're asking him to sneak out of the base and abandon his work on the Jackhammer for a joyride?? Like a couple of reckless teens?? How scandelous!!~ What would Magnus think!!

• Can’t meet his optics after the bath fiasco. After he’d seen everything. And you’re not even sure why you care that he saw. You’re both alien to each other, so it’s unlikely your nakedness does anything for him. Except, you can’t make yourself believe that with how he watches you, the way his touch lingers. The hunger in his stare. All of those little things that you shouldn’t notice, but you can’t pretend away. Maybe it really is Stockholm’s? Your mind just giving up on escape and whispering that maybe he’s not really that bad.

You’re so right!!! It’d make sense why ratchet would need to small at times (to blend in, to grab human supplies, to get into tough to reach corners) and the thought of him berating the shit out of Wheeljack is absolutely hilarious. Like, REALLY, Wheeljack you couldn’t think of another safer way to transport your human??? What the fuck is wrong with you, the poor thing shakes every time you look at them 🫩. I like the visual of a three story tall dragon being cowed by Some Human (Ratchet’s dragon form dishes out some pretty harsh tail smacks too — Wheeljack knows personally).
