also got this new hand carved tool from our studio shop, been trying out a more bodacious mug shape
it's been a busy couple of weeks at the studio, and i'm so excited at the progress i'm making in throwing and refining my functional pieces
It's been a really long time since I posted any pottery, so I thought it might be nice to post the mug that I got back from its glaze firing today. ^_^
One of the things I've started doing is going WAY back into my old pottery journal and looking for glaze patterns on pieces that I really liked. I mainly wanted to do this because I've improved since I started wheel throwing in the summer of 2018 (at least I hope I have, since it's been almost 8 years XD) and I wanted to put those old glaze choices on newer mugs I've thrown.
For comparison, below on the left, you'll find this mug I just threw, trimmed, and glazed in the past two months, and below on the right, you'll find a mug I threw, trimmed and glazed about 7 years ago with this same glaze pattern. (It should also be noted that the mug on the left is MUCH lighter than the one on the right. That 2019 mug is an absolute UNIT and boy oh boy does my wrist feel it when I drink from it. XD)
Anyway. I'm just proud of my mug, and I'm looking forward to trying out more of these old glazes!

glaze combos: 3x ancient jasper, 3x blue rutile, 2x oatmeal
recently started a ceramics class in my city (thats now almost done) and these are my works so far! one of the smaller bowls got destroyed when I was trimming it (rip) but the other finished as a very cute little pot. the larger bowl came out quite nice, trimmed just a bit with a foot so it'll become a cat bowl! the buttons got an unpictured tray made to all fire together, and i only have 3 classes left to do it lol its been really fun, I've enjoyed the work!

So happy I picked up wheel throwing. Clay is so humbling. It’s so relaxing to hold the Earth in my hands.
