I don't belong here Not in this atmosphere 

Then he poked his head out of the ladder hold and said, "Whazzaaaaaaaaaap?" I am a child of the nineties. What was there to do but what I did?

"Whazaaaaaaaaaap!" I responded.

"Whazzaaaaap!"

"Whazzaaaaap!"

"WBYCEIDBO!" (pronounced "wee-bee-sah-dee-boh"; it's from a car commerical.)

"WBYCEIDBO!"

He climbed down, and we set about breakfast-makery and clothing-donning and whatnot. While I was prepping bagels, he appeared at my elbow and started it up yet again. "Whassaaaap?"

We went back and forth a couple of times before I said, "So where did you learn 'whassaaap' anyway?"

"From Annoying Orange!"

"Oh, really? Well, did you know that whassap was a meme when I was a teenager? It came from a commercial."

"Really?"

"Oh yeah!" I popped the bagel in the toaster and summoned up YouTube on my phone. The original commercial was the first result, and we watched it together, giggling.

"Wow. A Bud Light commercial?"

"Yup."

"....whazzaaaaaaaaaap?!"

"WBYCEIDBO!"

So here we are, some twenty years later, and "whazzap" remains a pop-cultural artifact drifting in and out of our lives. It's relevant and humorous to a kid that was born more then a decade after it began.

I wonder who created that idea to begin with. I wonder if they're out there watchin' the game, having a Bud.
