I failed y'all because I didn't really properly pay attention to Tumblr for a few days and I think it's too late to boop back? (Or I don't know how. Whoops!)
I don't know if this is discourse as such but i reckon you'd be the character who quoted movies at the best of times and the worst of times, except it wouldn't be "The Quote" from the movie, it would be some obscure reference which would halt the flow while all the characters tried to work out what the hell you are on about!
i do this in real life, iâm a human imdb but only for the quotes that are at like the bottom of the page before the Spoiler section

Percival blinked. âWell, then, that was odd,â he said. âYou say your aunt died and left these things to my staff? Did they even know her?â
âShe was psychic,â Merlin explained. âHer will was odd, weâve been traveling for months, delivering odd items to odder locations. And this was our last stop.â
whataboutthefish replied to your post âMy kidsâ cat doesnât have a tail. Her brother didnât either but...â
My cat doesn't have ears
Was your cat born without them, too, @whataboutthefish? Child Zeroâs cat gave birth to six kittens and three had no tails. We took two of them (someone stole our too trusting overly loving boy) and now when I see cats with tails it throws my brain for a moment before it catches up that cats normally have tails.Â
@whataboutthefish prompted:Â Destiel - going to the zoo! Thank you for such a fun prompt!!!
destiel, ~1.3k, human!cas.Â
Itâs not a planned trip. If theyâd planned it, Dean thinks it mightâve never happened. Maybe one day they mightâve, if Cas ever wanted to, and Dean mightâve humoured him, and they mightâve gone to the zoo under some other circumstances. Maybe one day. Who knows.
Either way, Dean sees the signs for the zoo on their long, long, long drive back home from a case, and he figuresâwhy not? Itâs been a long day, itâs been a long case, and itâd be nice to breathe for a change. So now, theyâre at the zoo.
Cas is skeptical about the experience. He shoots Dean dirty glances his way for dragging him into this, and doesnât relax even as they walk along the bamboos that cover both sides of their path.
âWhat is this visit supposed to accomplish?â Cas asks, casting wary eyes at all the other visitors. Itâs a Wednesday, but the place is still booming probably because of the zooâs free admission, and tourists. There are a few groups of school kids on field trips led by their teachers, and Dean makes sure to hold onto Casâs hand, you know, just in case they get lost. Itâs a big place.
âItâs supposed to be for fun,â Dean replies. He studies the map. âOh, hey, theyâve got pandas. Wanna go see âem?â
âThese animals are all in captivity,â Cas says with dejection, and crap, this was supposed to cheer him up, not give him more reasons to be sad and disappointed towards being human. âI donât find joy in seeing them like this.â
âUh, well.â Dean scratches his head, and points at the big WE SAVE SPECIES! written on the map. âThis place is more like a safe place for animals that are, you know, in danger. So people are actually trying to help them.â
Cas tentatively eyes the map, and goes onto read the brochure Dean hands him that explains all the crap about conservation efforts the zoo is trying to do. He puts on a big concentration frown, and Dean wants to press his thumb between the crease to smooth it out.
âI guess it wouldnât hurt to look around,â Cas says carefully, after meticulously looking through the brochure. âWhat should we do?â
Honestly, Deanâs as out of depth as Cas here. Itâs not like this isnât his first time at a zoo, too. âLetâs wing it,â Dean says, and he feels more like theyâre stepping into a battleground than a peaceful afternoon at a family-friendly facility. Dean second-guesses himself, but Casâs frown doesnât cease, so around the zoo theyâll go.
The hype over the pandas are a fraud.
âDonât say that, Dean,â Cas replies, squinting out at the panda mindlessly chewing on its bamboo stem. âItâs in their nature to eat for a long time.â
âWeâve been staring at them eat for the past twenty minutes. They donât do anything else!â Dean exclaims, and drops his arms back down when the person beside him glances his way warily. âI know we didnât pay to get in here,â Dean says with a lower voice, âbut I still feel like I wasted my money.â
âTheyâre cute,â Cas says.
Dean rolls his eyes, but they stay for ten more minutes before they move onto the elephants.
Deanâs only a little hesitant when they have to cross a bridge that oversees the elephants, and the hesitation only lasts for maybe five seconds before the elephants all lift their heads in unison like that one scene in The Lion King, and stalks towards them, and towards Cas. All the zookeepers and everyone else around them reasonably look puzzled by the phenomenon of the elephants lifting their trunks towards him, almost like theyâre reaching for him.
âUh,â Dean says, all the while Cas serenely squats down, and waves at the elephants. He looks around, and theyâre definitely causing a scene, so Dean forgets about all of his problems with heights just long enough to drag Cas over to the other side of the bridge. âDude, the hell?â
âI guess some animals are more sensitive to what I used to be.â
âYou think?â Deanâs not sure why, but the little display fucking crushed him, so before he can assess that any further he leads them to what looks like a house full of reptiles.
Itâs not as crowded insideâDean supposes reptiles arenât as popular for regular families as elephants, or pandas. It was nice to be part of the crowd, people who have no fucking clue about what goes bump in the night, but now itâs nice to have a little downtime, too. They mostly stare in between the plants behind the glass, trying to find where all the critters are while Cas reads out what he finds interesting from the fact displays.
âBet you an ice cream cone for whoever finds this one faster,â Dean says.
âWe can both get one,â replies Cas. âParts of all of the purchases within the zoo goes towards the conservation funds.â
âThereâs no fun if thereâs no risk.â
âYou have a gambling problem, Dean.â
âWhaâOne of us went gambling on a fucking riverboat once, and it ainât me!â
âI needed gas money at the time. There,â Cas points at a spot, and there it is. âI found them.â
Dean gapes, and shoots what he hopes is an incredibly dirty look.
Cas grins.
They share the ice cream cone in the end, but that doesnât negate how Cas gloats over it the whole damn time. They also sell souvenirs beside the food court, so they look around those shops, too. Cas insists on picking out a t-shirt for himself, for Dean, and for Sam, so he does just that, and Dean picks up a toy snake to sneak into Samâs bed. Cas also gets a pair of tube socks with pandas and zebras on them for himself, and theyâre the ugliest things Deanâs ever seen, but Cas is happy, so Deanâs happy.
Soon they announce that the zooâs closing soon, so they walk out towards the parking lot with the sun setting on them. The sky is a brilliant orange and red and pink, and they throw their shopping bags in the back. Dean calls Sam and Eileen to let them know about the little detour on their way back, and to not worry. Cas sits beside him quietly until he ends the call, and he says, âThank you for doing this.â
âHey, no problem.â Dean doesnât start the engine.
Cas doesnât say anything else, but Dean knows that heâs thinking about the victim he couldnât save during their case earlier. It wasnât like Cas didnât try his bestâDean feels shitty for thinking it, but at the time, there was honestly nothing they couldâve done more. They were just⌠too gone by the time they arrived on scene. Deanâs already given him a spiel about the down sides of hunting, and Cas had accepted that.
But he also does know what it feels like, to accept the facts but canât help to think there mustâve been something they couldâve done better to save that one person. He figured something as nerdy as a zoo mightâve helped him a little, but maybe it was frivolous of him to think that. Maybe it was a side of indulgence on his part hoping to get a glimpse of Cas cheering up a little. Hey, he never claimed to be perfect.
Cas sits back on the seat, and lets out a little huff. Dean reaches over, and squeezes his hand, and Cas, stubborn son of a bitch who just canât stop blaming himself for everything that happens, opens his eyes and tentatively smiles at Dean, like heâs forgotten how to, and heâs getting back into the mechanics of it again.
âThank you,â Cas repeats. Then, no longer looking like death, he whines, âIâm tired.â
Dean nods. Good enough. âOkay. Letâs go home.â
