"Degrading, dehumanizing, horrendous:" Fabian Schmidt on 2 months in ICE detention
May 13, 2025 Updated May 14, 2025
Fabian Schmidt, who is originally from Germany, made it clear that he’s proud to be in America, but said he’s still reeling from his unexpected two-month detention that he described as “dehumanizing.”
The lawful permanent resident, who has lived in New Hampshire since 2022, was stopped at Logan International Airport on March 7 after visiting family in Europe. He spoke to GBH News on Tuesday about the experience and trying to readjust back to his normal life after his release.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection declined to answer questions about Schmidt’s case but the agency denies allegations of mistreatment at Logan.
The most awesomest thing ever just happened on WGBH here are my live notes

Congress told us to "Go Fund Yourself." And with your help, we can. Our federal funding might be gone, but we’re still here. Public media needs your support now more than ever. Join us to protect the future of independent journalism that has no barriers and help us make educational content accessible to all. Love it? Fund it.
In a normal circumstance, I hate Netflix. However, they struck a deal to produce new episodes of Sesame Street and will ensure that the episodes remain free and accessible on PBS for all kids and for that, they deserve gratitude.
Additionally, unlike the deal previous struck with HBO, this one with Netflix also makes its so new episodes are simultaneously available via Netflix, PBS, and the PBS Kids app.
Please continue to support Sesame Street and all the other PBS programming via donations to ensure everyone, kids and adults alike, continue to have access to educational viewing.

Experts explore ethical dilemmas, promoting constructive dialogue about polarizing issues.
Another election, another deadlock. New GBH special wonders if we can rise above
Sep. 24, 2024 Deadlock: An Election Story‚“ produced by Boston’s GBH, is an hour-long program that looks at how we talk to each other in times of political division and chaos - and how we can find common ground.
"The show’s panelists include faces and voices that should be familiar to anyone who’s spent even a few minutes watching the news during these tumultuous last four years.
They include Princeton University professor Eddie S. Glaude Jr., MSNBC political analyst Elise Jordan, 60 Minutes journalist Scott Pelley, former U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach, former Trump White House aide Mick Mulvaney, Georgia election official Gabriel Sterling, and Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, among others."
