I've always loved poking around the Cedar Mountains. It's only three mountain ranges to the west of us, on the edge of the immense dried lake bed of ancient Bonneville. The '49 party passed through here, on their way to destiny atop Donner Pass. Much of the range is wilderness, hence preserved from mechanized mayhem, and their relatively low stature permit pretty easy summit hiking access, though any trails are either game, or faint, or both. Views west to Nevada and north to Idaho are easy on a clear day. Jessica and I headed out to the West Desert for some austere scenic beauty, fresh air, blue skies, a bit of hiking, and a search for wild horses.
